The widely publicized "Me Too" sexual assault and rape trial of Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has a boxing angle to it, relatively speaking. Weinstein's trial is down to closing arguments and will go to the jury next week in Manhattan. Prosecutors charge sexual misconduct and Weinstein's defense is, in the main, that the sex action was always consensual. Brooklyn lawyer Arthur L. Aidala is the son of well known lawyer Louis Aidala. It's his father Artie Aidala who was a... top level judge at huge fights at Yankee Stadium and Madison Square for four decades. The respected ringside judge died at age 91 in 2000. I can still "hear" ring announcer Johnny Addie intoning Aidala's name with loud and correct pronunciation. Aidala was a judge in the Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier massive bout at the Garden on March 8, 1971, and saw Smokin' Joe as a 9-6 winner after 15 rounds. Aidala, whose day job was as a photographer for New York newspapers, was known for putting pencils in his ears to help him ignore partisan cheering by fight crowds. When Rocky Marciano struggled to outpoint Roland Lastarza in a non-title bout in June of 1954, Aidala tabbed Lastarza a points winner over unbeaten Rocky, Marciano, he of the famous 49-0 record, won a split decision and went on to beat Lastarza in a title bout., It is said that Rocky threw a verbal jab at Aidala later, saying, "Artie, you're lucky I didn't catch you in a back alley." The two Italian Americans both laughed at that. ([email protected]) Reply Reply All Forward

I am pleased as punch to be part of brilliant Robert Bader docu ALI AND CAVETT, TALE OF THE TAPES, now airing on HBO, well worth watching, show Ali as he really was, why I was fascinated by him and became his friend beginning when I was age 12 in Boston
