It’s a good season for LDN research. A number of new LDN clinical trials have just begun or are soon to start. Let’s check out the new studies. There are 2 new COVID clinical trials, in addition to several others we reported to LDNscience readers previously. 1One new study, sponsored by HealthPartners Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota, will compare the impact of LDN and another medication called colchicine on COVID-19 disease progression. ... 2The other new COVID study plans to assess the safety and efficacy of LDN in reducing the number of higher risk patients who progress from mild COVID-19 to more severe states of the condition. The science world’s version of the ice bucket challenge, the cold pressor test, has been making news recently in connection to LDN. How so? The cold pressor test (CPT) is a widely used method for measuring pain or stress through holding one’s hand or forearm in cold water for as long as one can. The first was an international research collaboration studying LDN’s effect on chronic pain associated with heavy alcohol use among persons with HIV. In contrast, those taking LDN... tolerated it well and, after 8 weeks had significantly higher pain tolerance. The second was a new study from SUNY Upstate Medical Center on what chronic opioid use does to pain tolerance - as measured by the CPT- and whether LDN might be an effective treatment for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia (FM). The researchers found that taking LDN significantly improved pain tolerance: by more than 4x in patients with OIH, and 2x among those with fibromyalgia. The experience of some people with #autoimmunediseases who have begun LDN has been remarkable. Many patients with diagnoses such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, Crohn's disease and many more have benefited. Suffering from TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction pain or facial nerve pain? Two recently published articles address LDN’s potential to treat such kinds of dental/facial pain. This is the first time such disorders have been published in the LDN literature. 1Three Brazilian institutes published a study about LDN’s effect on trigeminal neuralgia (TN), which is a type of intense facial nerve pain. The researchers used a rodent model of TN to study LDN’s effects. They fou...nd the first dose of LDN partially reversed facial pain and after 10 days of treatment, completely reversed it. 2In addition, University of Michigan researchers recently published a review of past LDN articles in order to analyze LDN’s potential to assist with chronic pain associated with dental conditions.
