Lead Advisory Board members joined Class 19 for lunch at the beginning of their Syracuse session
While we don't explicitly follow the MSK framework outlined in this article, we do cover all of those bases in our program. Also worth noting the author's comment about those companies unwilling to invest in leadership development for their middle managers often lose them - something we have observed for years - and underscores the importance of sending your high-potential middle managers to programs like LeadNY!
Class 19 Ag Technology in Batavia has concluded. Great tours by Wade Heineman (class 15) and Thomas Matthews (class 16) and an opportunity for alumni, class 18 and the current class to meet at the Noblehurst fieldhouse. Thank you to all of our hosts! All tours benefit the program immensely.

The social skills referred to in this article are largely what LeadNY works on in our curriculum, and has for years. Leadership is all about relationships!

Love this paper. As someone who has studied and practiced leadership development for two decades, you would think I always sing the praises of "leadership", but in reality, I am often quite the skeptic of so many uses of the term. One of my (least) favorites was a few years back when a car company ran a promotion they called their "leadership sales event". I sat in front of my TV thinking "What the heck is that supposed to mean?" Don't get me wrong - leadership is important and necessary - and so is management. We should stop romanticizing and over-using the term "leadership" - when what we are really talking about, and need, is just good management.
Liz Brock, DVM (class 12) and Associate Professor of Animal Science at the University of New Hampshire participates in the podcast on Diversity Equity and Inclusion for the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.
We hope we see many of you at the NYS Ag Society Annual Forum this Thursday! Also great to see two LeadNY alumni (Tom Facer, class 1 and Martha Hilton, class 16) serving as the keynote speakers!
We're very sorry to learn of the passing of former NYS Assemblyman and Ag. Committee Chair, William Magee. Bill was a regular host for our class members during our legislative shadowing experience, and a strong supporter of NY agriculture, having worked closely with dozens of our alumni over the years. Our condolences go out to his family.
