Who doesn't love a snow cone? Last Friday, Legacy at Willow Pond residents took advantage of the remaining warm summer weather by venturing outside for a snow cone treat. As an added bonus, Mike Stewart, our Director of Human Resources, brought out his guitar and strummed up some great beats for a sing-along. Ein Prosit! Ein Prosit! Der Gemütlichkeit! It was truly a German festival at Legacy at Willow Pond yesterday as we celebrated Oktoberfest. Our Executive Director, Jeff, led the day with a class on Octoberfest which included fun and interesting facts about the celebration. Shortly afterwards, we had our very own Oktoberfest complete with German beer, pretzels and assorted pastries. Social distancing was practiced, but we were still able to converse and snack to the tune of tru...e Oktoberfest music. To finish off the festive day, our chef cooked up an authentic German meal consisting of bratwurst, potato pancakes and a delicious pot roast topped with an authentic beer gravy. It's all strikes and spares for Nancy Pulinski and our all-star lineup of Wii bowlers as we join other seniors from across the country in the National Senior League! Legacy at Willow Pond has enrolled to participate in the NSL, a national web-based Wii bowling league that allows us to compete virtually with other teams of seniors without ever having to leave our community. While this is a fun way to engage in some friendly competition, our three teams Ladybugs, Women of the... World and Burgundy Bombers are certainly in it to win it! The 2020 NSL Senior Wii Bowl Championships opened with 24 senior communities, 528 registered senior Wii bowlers and 99 teams. During the first seven weeks of the ten-week season, two conference games are played each week. The top teams of each conference will then advance to Open Bowl Playoffs. Bowler standings are posted in our community for all to see and offer support and encouragement. Last Wednesday, Wickham Farms generously bestowed us with an abundant donation of fresh-cut sunflower bouquets to brighten our day! Our community was excited to celebrate the great state of Hawaii on Friday! After a day of "Alohas" and other Hawaiian greetings, friends enjoyed a safe and socially-distant Luau themed happy hour. Wearing newly-acquired floral leis and bright tropical attire, some chose to sip on our usual fare of wine and beer while others indulged in a delicious Hawaiian-style punch complete with fancy flamingo straws. Our talented dining associates created a colorful arrangement of fresh fruit kabobs, which proved to be the perfect summertime snack for our festivities! As traditional Hawaiian music filled the atmosphere, some residents were inspired to show off their best Hula dance moves.
