It is with great sadness that the Town of Lewiston has announced that the Lewiston Family Ice Rink will not be open this winter. The Lewiston Town Board worked very hard to overcome the obstacles and hardships brought on by the pandemic to make this happen, but ultimately decided that they could best serve the public long term by putting the rink on hiatus in 2020. It became clear that the rink would have to operate in 2020 without the warming house tent. The tent is comple...tely sealed every year in order to keep it warmed enough to prevent ice from forming on its roof. Without proper ventilation and circulation, the fear would be that the tent would not be able to meet CDC and State Guidelines for gatherings and indoor events. As you may already know, the COVID19 pandemic has put considerable financial strain on local municipal budgets as well. Without a warming house providing needed revenue for the Rink operation, the Town of Lewiston was scrambling to fund the rink. Finally, the site of the rink at Academy Park has alrady gone through changes that effect the Rink operation, and the Village of Lewiston has plans for further construction this winter. All of these factors contributed to the decision made by the Town Board. The Town Recreation Department is already in the process of preenting a plan for the rink opertion in 2021, as we all hope to continue to bring this tradition back next year and beyond. Trick or Treating will be on October 31st for both the town and village from 4p-7p.

REMINDER: Basketball Courts, Playground Equipment, and all other gathering areas are currently CLOSED in the Town of Lewiston as we comply with CDC and State of... New York Guidelines for social distancing and mitigation of the COVID-19 pandemic. While many of us have reached a point of exhaustion with the social restrictions, it’s our mission to be part of the solution and not part of the spread. Things WILL return to normal soon!

This is in accordance with guidance from the State of New York and the CDC, as steps to curb the spread of this deadly disease are still being taken. All playgrounds are closed until further notice. Very sad news. Mr Coulter and his dedication to the community will be missed. Whether he was organizing an age group at the Kiwanis Park Easter Egg Hunt or flipping burgers at the Peach Festival, John was a reliable sight at so many of our Lewiston community functions.
