What is a cemetery? It’s good time to think about the many things a cemetery is. A cemetery is a place where the beauty and serenity of nature are protected and nurtured, bringing comfort and peace to the living, and reflecting our hopes for the loved ones who have passed on. It’s no surprise, then, that these clean and green spaces would be a pleasant stop for a visit. But there is more to a cemetery than green than monuments and grass.... A cemetery is a place of safety and protection, not only for the remains of loved ones but for families as they remember, mourn and celebrate the lives of their ancestors. A cemetery is a place of solitude, where we can be alone with our thoughts and contemplate life, nature, and the eternal. But a cemetery is also about community. They are an ancestral record of local and family histories, where residents honour those who helped build the community that supports us today. Where families have ventured away from their loved ones, cemeteries can become places of pilgrimage, where descendants can return to their roots. As records become more available, many people are embarking on genealogical journeys into their past, discovering new branches which they never knew existed. A cemetery is a tangible marker of those lives once lived, one that both transcends and unites individual memory. For all these reasons, a cemetery is an invaluable part of our community. They are also, unfortunately, at times forgotten.

You're in touch with your grief when you make space for the feelings your loss brought into your life. Some days you have glimmers of peace, a smile, maybe even a laugh. And sometimes you feel guilty for having these bursts of pure beauty. Put the guilt down. Know that when you are able to savor life, even with a tinge of sorrow, you honor their life and their love. Playing small doesn't honor them. Living with an open heart does. When you're ready, let the sun glimmer in and know that as you keep living, you honor their life.~Ashley Davis Bush

Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. - Psalm 37: 4-6
