Participants from the URMC STEP, a program in the University of Rochester's Center for Advocacy, Community Health, Education and Diversity, learned about medicine safety and the over-the-counter drug research and development process, as part of their Medicines and Me IV Field Trip at the Life Sciences Learning Center. This group shared a lot of laughter and peer support as they learned how to use lab equipment. They encouraged each other with each practice sample loaded, to feel more confident as they began loading 5 uL of sample into each well... much harder than it look..#URMCSTEP2019 #URMCSTEP #LifeSciencesLearningCenter

The Life Sciences Learning Center will be sharing some of our Medicines and Me Activities at tonight's Almost Overnight for the Rochester Museum & Science Center Grab Your Goggles!

Students had a chance to practice making commercials for the new pain relief medicine they formulated into a gummy during lab time. They highlighted various components of drug commercials they had seen advertised. These students had lots of giggles and bloopers and fun along the way. In their brainstorming sessions they also discussed the importance of drug safety and the role of drug companies and the community in keeping kids safe.
