IN MEMORIAM We recently lost four members of our LLI SUNY New Paltz family. They contributed in many ways to our organization and were also pillars of their communities. They will be missed. Carol Ann Roper, 86, of New Paltz, passed away peacefully on April 24th. She served as a member of the LLI SUNY New Paltz Council and both Carol and Don, her husband, were active members of our LLI community as well as longtime supporters of SUNY New Paltz, including as patrons of the ca...mpus theatre arts and music programs and as avid supporters of the women’s basketball team. She was an English instructor at Dutchess Community College for many years. In addition, Carol was actively involved in civic, cultural, and humanitarian work for which she received many honors. Mary Ann Osgood 79, of Gardiner, NY, passed away on August 1st. Both Mary Ann and her husband Paul have been members of LLI for many years. Mary Ann was a music educator as well as an active advocate for women, education and the environment. She continued volunteering in public service all of her life, and in later years was on the Gardiner Library Board and drove people to doctor's appointments through Neighbor to Neighbor Ulster Office of Aging. She and Paul were the proprietors of the Country Store of Gardiner Antique center for 17 years. Sally Rhoads of New Paltz, NY passed away on August 11. Sally was a founding member of LLI SUNY New Paltz and served as president from 2012-2013. Her husband Bill was a professor at SUNY New Paltz and is a well-liked presenter for LLI. She served on the New Paltz school board for many years as well as being the president of the trustees of the Elting Memorial Library and was the president at the time of the planning and building of the latest addition. Rick Ryan of New Paltz, NY and more recently Florida, passed away suddenly on August 12th. Marion, Rick's wife, was an active member of our LLI community. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families.

We are making progress in our efforts to bring you online classes for Fall 2020. The course list is almost completed Presenters are on board The online catalog is in the works But, we need your help. We have one critical missing link classroom hosts. They are crucial to the success of the online program. ... What do hosts do? They work hand in hand with the presenter and are involved from the start (sending the email invite) to the finish (closing the class). Responsibilities include: Sending out the Zoom class invitation to the students Monitoring the waiting room Introducing the presenter (first class) Keeper of the controls muting and unmuting the audience when appropriate (start of the class, questions) handing over the control of the screen to the presenter, keeping an eye on and monitoring the chat box (Q&A) Closing the session. Do not worry if you lack Zoom skills, we didn’t start out with them. Training materials/sessions and practice sessions with the presenter will be provided to ensure your comfort level. Again, the position is key. If we don’t have volunteers to fill these positions, we will have to reduce the number of courses we have planned. Ideally, we need 10 people to start. Please volunteer. Contact [email protected] Online training sessions will start the last week in July. See more
