The Rockland Homes For Heroes Charity which exists to help end veteran homelessness in the Mid Hudson Valley is deeply & profoundly moved that the Suffern Ladie...s Ancient Order of Hibernians chose us to help memorize two of the most beloved ladies of Rockland County who will never be forgotten. And it is most serendipitous that we were just blessed by accepting into residency our first lady veteran (of the United States Marine Corps). Www.rocklandhomesforheroes.org See more

The Rockland Homes For Heroes’’ 501[c]3 Not-For-Profit Charity created to help end veteran homelessness in the Mid-Hudson Valley is pleased to announce our Sta...te Government’s Grant of $4,400,000 for our joint mission. The money will be used, along with the money contributed by the people of Rockland and others, the largest of which was $280,000 from the Federal Home Loan Bank made possible by the local Sterling National Bank’s interest in our community, our veterans and all homeless people. The money will be used to construct 14 more permanent, affordable, Supportive" Apartments for homeless veterans on the former iconic WW II Camp Shanks Port of Embarkation for 1.3 million Gi’s headed for Europe to fight the nazi army from D-Day to V-Day. It was Last Stop USA for many who never came home. Construction will start in August and we hope we will provide work for our community. For the past more than half-a-decade, "Rockland Homes for Heroes" has operated 8 such apartments with incredible success in saving and changing veterans' lives. The operation has truly become a passion of our community as evidenced by its kind generosity in terms of contributed money, labor, food and other necessities of life. By Supportive is meant the personal services provided by Loeb House via another State Grant which connects and coordinates every available tool to facilitate rehabilitation, growth and serenity for our resident veterans. Part of this is the role of the community, which has contributed money, labor and the very touching gifts of food, gift cards and holiday gifts. These mean a great deal to the veterans who feel wanted and respected upon receipt. I close with sincere and very deep appreciation to our Town Government’s support and every organization, family and person who extended them selves to give a hand and hope to our veterans. I also close by paying tribute to my fellow Directors who always stood strong and tall for the past two years. In alphabetic order - Carl Dornbush, Tom Micelli, John Manifold, Monica Toscano, Will warren, Eugene Wasielewski and our beloved Fund raisers - Margaret Fitzpatrick and the late Leslie Cruden. The Rockland Homes For Heroes is very gratified by the $2,000 contribution from the Marine Corps League of Rockland to help end veteran homelessness in the Hu...dson Valley. The League is a group of Former & Retired Marines who continue to uphold the traditions of the Marine Corps through serving in the community in which we live and our nation as a whole. I am proud o be able to say that I am a member. Their contributions of service is a Rockland County treasure. Www.rocklandhomesforheroes.orgk9 See more

Paying Tribute On This Year's Veteran Day. As a veteran, I always try to do my best to encourage all my Nation's citizens to express their appreciation of all v...eterans in any way they feel comfortable doing so. And this year, I want to ask everyone in our community to know about one in particular, because he continues to serve us. His name is John Manifold, who is a Tappan Zee graduate who entered the service [Army] in January 1967 and was deployed to Vietnam where received a Purple Heart for combat wounds on March 30, 1968. When John was honorably discharged on January 5, 1970. He went to work for Spring Valley Water in 1971 and retired as Forman in 2013. But he did not stop serving causes greater than himself. Just one example is how he volunteered working on fund raising car shows for "Camp Venture" for 12 years during my tour of duty with Venture and and now is an almost full time volunteer for "Rockland Homes For Heroes" for over two years. When I say volunteer, I mean he works almost full time in the mission to help end veteran homelessness in the Mid Hudson Valley www.rocklandhomesforheroes.org
