Works by Lauren Sansaricq in our current group exhibition Place as Portal. Lauren Sansaricq Lauren Sansaricq (b. 1990) Grew up in Columbia County, New York, where from an early age she was exposed to both the beauties of the Hudson Valley and, under the teaching of Thomas Locker, to the traditional painting techniques of the Hudson River School.... Miss Sansaricq received academic training in drawing and painting at the Grand Central Academy of Art in NYC. Her work has been exhibited in Manhattan at the Salmagundi Club and the National Arts Club. She is currently represented by Hawthorne Fine Art gallery in New York, directed by Jennifer Krieger, who co-curated the Remember the Ladies exhibit at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. Lauren Sansaricq was also honored with a solo showNature’s Poetryat Hawthorne fine Art in 2011. She has also been awarded the Hudson River Fellowship three times and is also a recipient of the Henrietta Reiss Award. One of Lauren’s paintings was also featured in the New York Times , surrounding the show she was apart of , The Great Hudson River Exhibition. Today Sansaricq’s work is in collections throughout the country, and is hung beside some of the best American painters of the past. As Sansaricq states,One of the many things I have learned from being a landscape painter is I have gained a true appreciation of nature and a heightened awareness of nature. More often than not I find we take for granted the beauty that nature provides to us; I feel that the more we can appreciate this beauty -- whether through painting, writing, or just simply observing -- the happier we will be. By studying nature in any way, one starts to see broader themes, such as death and rebirth and the ever-changing cycle of all things, and that we too are a part of this beautiful cycle." . . . . . . . . . . . . #laurensansaricq #hudsonriverpainters #lanscapepainting #landscape #pleinairpainting #pleinair #placeasportal #lightformsartcenter #hudsonvalley #hudsonny #hudsongallery See more

A few paintings by Abe Madey, currently on view as part of our Place as Portal exhibition. Watercolor on paper. All works are for sale and come beautifully framed. Stop by Lightforms to see more of Madey’s work along with works by several other exhibiting artists. Abe Madey and his family live near Claverack, NY. He has a background in Atmospheric Sciences and works primarily teaching math and science at the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf school. Painting and drawing have always ...been something that he has enjoyed and practiced on his own time as a way to balance his other work. Artist Statement: I paint landscapes mostly because I’m an atmospheric romantic. That is, I am beguiled by the play of light outdoors, whether it’s a billowing cloud bank on the horizon, cool afternoon shadows over a footpath or a hot summer haze muting the landscape. Putting these atmospheric feelings into a painting is a challenge and also my way of connecting with the beauty. I work primarily outdoors (or En plein air) and seldom from photographs. I have been doing this for over 25 years and while I usually have a good of what I want to paint when I begin, no painting has ever got to plan. Watercolor has it’s own way on the paper and there is always an intriguing element that slips in that I didn’t anticipate or account for. Not every painting attempt works out and even when one does, I seldom regard it as a finished artistic statement. Rather each painting is, for me, a prelude to another possibility, and an inspiration to go out and paint again. . . . . . . . . #lightformsartcenter #hudsongallery #hudsonny #olanastatehistoricsite #painting #pleinairpainting #pleinair #watercolor #watercolorpainting #watercolorlandscape #nature #naturepainting #placeasportal #art #kunst

Detail from one of the twelve 3’x7’ pieces in Year of the Dog series by Judy Pfaff now on view at Lightforms Art Center. Pfaff created these pieces by collaging layers of cut-out elements printed front and back, lacquered, waxed, folded, and burned. The many layers give an impression of great depth and movement. This exhibit is not to be missed! Lightforms is open Thursday-Sunday 11:30-5pm . . . .... . . . #judypfaff #judypfaffart #lightformsartcenter #gallery #hudson #hudsonvalleyny #hudsonny #art #collage #kunst See more
