A wonderful woman posted about honey bees needing help and the wonderful Richard Linck from Linck Apiaries rescued them! Part of our mission at Willowdale Bend ...is to help save the bees. If anyone comes across honey bees please let me know and I will contact him. He has bees on our property and doing what we can for the preservation of them as well as the birds, bats, butterflies and whatever other wildlife that wants to join our habitat at Willowdale Bend. Come see our other rescues flemish rabbits named Pepper and Ginger, kunikuni pigs named Pork and Beans, calves, a peacock named Blueberry, ducks, geese and our gigantic bull we rescued 5 years ago. His name is Marshmellow because he loves marshmellows. He's at least 2500-3000 lbs. See more

Over the past few weeks, we have been working hard producing our fall batch of honey! As you can see from this picture, fall honey is much darker than our summer honey. The taste is quite unique, too! Make sure to get some before it's gone!

It turns out that a bee's brain is capable of a lot more than we originally thought! A recent study showed that "honey bees can remember both good and bad experiences and store them in different areas of the brain, similar to the way humans and other vertebrates do." Fascinating! #SaveTheBees Tip #8: Become a bee ambassador! Making real changes often takes strength in numbers. Educate your friends, family, and community on how to help bees by becoming a bee ambassador! Current bee ambassadors engage others by asking for bee-benefitting donations in lieu of birthday gifts and... selling muffins door to door. Get creative with ways to raise funds and get the buzz out on saving bees! #BeeTheChange you want to see in the world!

#SaveTheBees Tip #7: Support your local beekeeper! At Linck Apiaries, we work hard to nurture our bees and better our local community for both bees and humans alike. The easiest way to support such efforts is to buy our locally-made honey. Since we provide most of our honey in bulk, the easiest way to get ahold of some is by messaging us directly. ... If you're interested in smaller quantities, however, you can find our golden goodness exclusively at Willowdale Bend and Oliver's Produce! In fact, with the exception of some scattered showers Saturday morning, it's looking like a glorious weekend to visit both of these great locations. #BeeTheChange you want to see in the world!

#SaveTheBees Tip #6: Plant a tree We often associate bees and pollination with beautiful perennial flowers Did you know, however, that bees actually get the majority of their nectar from trees? When a tree blooms, it can provide bees with potentially thousands of blossoms to feed upon. Also, trees are essential to a bee's habitat. Plant a and save the ... #BeeTheChange you want to see in the world!

#SaveTheBees Tip #4: Build a bee condo! Another great, family-friendly activity that can also help #SaveTheBees is creating a bee condo, aka a bee block, for native, non-aggressive bees. Interestingly, except for honey bees, most bees are relatively solitary, with 70% living underground and 30% living in holes inside of trees and hollow stems. "Bee condos" allow solitary bees to take up residence and pollinate your garden. They are widely available for sale online, and alter...natively building them is quite simple! #SaveTheBees Tip #3: Build a bee bath! A great, family-friendly activity that can also help #SaveTheBees is creating a bee bath. Just use these easy-to-follow steps: -Step 1: fill a shallow birdbath or a small dish or bowl with clean water. ... -Step 2: arrange pebbles and stones inside so that they poke out of the water. -Step 3: sit back, relax and watch bees land on the stones and pebbles to drink the water as they take a break from foraging and pollinating. #BeeTheChange you want to see in the world!
