Your help is requested! In 2008 the Lincoln Depot Foundation commissioned American sculptor Richard Masloski to create a larger than life-size sculpture of President Abraham Lincoln giving his speech at the Peekskill Train Depot on February 19, 1861. Thus, began a strong relationship between Richard and our Museum. A retrospective of Richard’s Lincoln and Civil War Sculptures was exhibited during the 2015 season, including MOODY, TEARFUL NIGHT and Richard participated in man...y events and fundraisers throughout the years. Unfortunately, Richard was involved in a freak accident and passed away in 2018. The Lincoln Depot Foundation was recently offered the unique opportunity to acquire the one and only bronze casting of his wonderful sculpture, MOODY, TEARFUL NIGHT . We see no more fitting tribute to our dear friend than to be able to display this sculpture in the Museum he loved so deeply, enabling generations to come to fully enjoy Richard Masloski’s powerful masterpiece, MOODY, TEARFUL NIGHT! Please help us make this dream come true! MOODY, TEARFUL NIGHT April 14, 1865 President Lincoln, just moments before, had been shot by John Wilkes Booth. A doctor and four soldiers carry him from Ford's Theatre to the rooming house across the street, where hours later he will die. The Lincoln Depot Foundation and Museum commemorates Abraham Lincoln's inaugural visit and stop in Peekskill, NY, and highlights Peekskill's connection within the greater context of the Civil War Period, focusing on the life and times of Abraham Lincoln, New York's significant role in the war, and the local Underground Railroad and their place in history. https://gofund.me/30c57892

We approach President Lincoln's Birthday and the anniversary of his speech in Peekskill. Due to the 2020 Pandemic, our Annual Lincoln Society Re-enactment Event... and Commemoration was cancelled, and a virtual video was created. Produced by Michael J. Miner, the video combines the best moments from many of the events and commemorations that transpired over the past ten years. Please sit back and enjoy this wonderful production of speeches, poems and music, as we celebrate the 160th Anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's stop and speech in Peekskill, New York on February 19, 1861. Narrated by current president Robert McFarlane with various introductions by past president Tony Czarnecki, the video includes a brief history of the Exedra monument by past president Barbara Kerosiotis (1:58) the Pledge of Allegiance by the Society (3:01) Invocation by Rev. Stephany Graham walker (3:28) O' Captain My Captain by Mark Aarons (4:46) The National Anthem by Alyssa Martin (7:53) Taps by Phil Miller (10:15) The Gettysburg Address by Mike Greist (12:59) Lincoln's Peekskill Speech by past president Michael Macedonia (17:20) Special Musical selection by Jay Unger and Molly Mason (19:51) Lincoln Museum preview by past President John Testa (25:30) The battle Hymn of the Republic by Alyssa Martin (26:28) and Ashokan Farewell by Jay Unger and Molly Mason (29:20). The video concludes with a Civil War musket firing and taps. See more

This is an event we were hoping to have months ago and on a much bigger scale but, of course, not able to schedule. As the later months and cooler weather are upon us, we wanted to be sure to get the shrubs planted and have them established for springtime. Walt Whitman’s reference to lilacs in the poem about Lincoln, When Lilacs Last In The Dooryard Bloom’d is the inspiration for the donation of the plants and having them at the museum to be enjoyed for many years in the future. Hopefully, things will begin to improve and we will see you at the museum sometime in 2021.
Well. Well, well. Sound the Alarm. No slippery slope here.
Something to see this Sunday, July 5!

We are proud to be flying the official Juneteenth Flag as we have done every year since our opening. Although it originated in Texas, the celebration of Juneteenth has grown throughout the country. Due to present circumstances we unfortunately could not hold a ceremony this year but we will post the one from 2015 that started it all for us.
Abraham Lincoln believed free and fair elections were essential, even during times of conflict. It is the backbone of our democracy. We are proud to be a part of our local process as the early voting location. Be sure to participate.
