Walter Our ESL student, Walter, has been keeping very busy this winter! Between getting a new puppy, enjoying the snow, skiing, and helping a fellow ESL student with moving, Walter has ventured into jewelry making! His gorgeous pieces are for now for sale. If interested, please contact Walter via Facebook (www.facebook.com/manrique.ramos.9003). Awesome work, Walter! Walter was one of the students who agreed to participate this fall during our online meeting with N.Y.S. Senator Patty Ritchie. We appreciate it when students give back to the program by volunteering to tell funders and politicians how they benefitted from our services.
We are in need of volunteer tutors to teach remotely in classes or with one student. Literacy New York recently revised the Math, Reading, and ESL online (I20) tutor training modules and included some great new additions. You can sign up anytime and do the training at your convenience. If you are interested, please call the office at 315-782-4270 or use the LNNY web page contact form. http://www.literacynny.org/contact/
We have an ambitious and motivated student in our program! Florence, who attends both the Fort Drum and Watertown classes, is also taking a sewing course at the SFAC building on Fort Drum. Take a look at her current project. Beautiful work, Florence!
Ruth Colvin, at 104, she is still inspiring us!

We owe a big thank you to Senator Patty Ritchie for helping us obtain our long awaited fourth quarter Adult Literacy Education (ALE) funds from NYS for the April - June 2020 time period. Senator Ritchie and her staff person, Logan Eddy, met via Zoom with our staff, students, Kathy Houghton and Danielle Grassi of Literacy NY and Lisa Lee from Literacy West. Senator Ritchie wrote a letter to Governor Cuomo asking that he release the ALE funds so we could continue to serve our adult literacy students. Assemblyman Mark Walczyk also met with our us and signed the letter to the governor. We received our funding today!
