As an equestrians, we regularly use these trails both for physical health and for the mental/emotional health benefits they provide for ourselves as well as our horses. I am very excited at the prospect of expanding the greenway trail systems and I’ve reviewed the Draft of the Statewide Greenway Trails Plan. I’ve outlined several concerns below that I think must be considered in order to plan and design the trails to best serve the well-established and growing equestrian community.A great benefit to the trail use will be to bring people access to businesses and provide a truly connected network. The current trail plan overlooks the northeast section of Chautauqua County. Whenever possible I recommend that stone dust be used. Stone dust provides great footing for horses and yet still can accommodate cyclists, hikers, runners among others.I am encouraged that the planners are seeking input from community groups such as the Bicyclists, Equestrians and Hikers. These groups will help to bring business to the areas involved. There are many horseback riding clubs, groups, organizations and businesses that will make use of these trails. I wish to suggest that the planners regularly consult the Horse Council and other horse groups in further planning. Bicyclists and horseback riders regularly work together to create and maintain truly multi-use trails to best benefit the community as a whole. I look forward to hearing more about the Greenway Conference where further planning will take place. With guidelines for trail construction, signage/wayfaring, funding sources and maintenance planning, trails in NYS can be some of the best! Sincerely,

We would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support, patience, and understanding as we have had to make several difficult decisions this year. Our Memorial Day and Labor Day Rides are the main fundraisers for the club. With the cancellation of our Labor Day Ride, we are hopi...Continue reading
