With extreme cold weather temperatures forecasted to impact the City of Lockport, a Code Blue is planned Wednesday night, December 16 and Thursday night, December 17, 2020. Overnight from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. during the Code Blue, the Code Blue Warming Shelter will be open to assist city residents in need. Any individual or homeless person without heat may spend the evening at the Salvation Army facility, located at 50 Cottage St. in Lockport. Cots, blankets and light refreshments will be offered to guests to provide comfort and safety during the expected inclement conditions. Doors to the shelter are locked at 10 p.m. each night, although police may escort individuals to the shelter until midnight.
We are excited for our first annual Christmas Lights Challenge! Get out and enjoy all of the beautiful holiday decorations in our city in a safe and socially distanced way. Mayor Roman and the City Council will be judging the participating houses on the best Martha Stewart or Clark Griswold decorations! Winners will be announced Saturday, December 19th. City of Lockport leaf crews are finishing up around Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Virginia. The next streets include Eisenhower, Hoover, Nixon, Roosevelt, and Lindhurst. From there, crews will cover the east end of Willow, plus McIntosh, O’Brien, Jesson, etc.
The City of Lockport’s Highways and Parks crews continue fall leaf pickup on Wednesday, Nov. 4 in the vicinity of Willow and Locust streets. Crews are working in a counterclockwise direction, heading toward Erie Street and Beattie Avenue. Crews anticipate reaching the area of Vermont Street, Georgia Avenue and Carolina Avenue by Thursday.
