A short update on my previous posting about sending a couple home because one of the two had a reading of about 100 when I took their temperature. Two days later the person cancelled another appointment due to illness. A COVID-19 test was negative but some of those tests are barely accurate. Anyhow, it might have been a cold. But there is a good reason to establish reasonable protocols and to stick with them. Be safe!

Couples therapy during this time of pandemic. I see some patients in person because I have a strict safety protocol in which I take patients’ temperatures before they come in to my office. ( I take a lot of other precautions , too, but temperature is relevant here.) Tonight, I had to turn away a couple because he rang up a temperature of 100, actually 99.9-100.1, taken in three location on his temples and forehead. ... My temperature threshold is 100. I sent them home. Better safe than sorry. I have a protocol in place to prevent the transmisssion of COVID-19. I have a reasonable cut-off point for temperature . I adhere to my protocol. Period. No excuses.

There are many psychological consequences resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Many relationships and marriages are stressed and breaking. It is heartbreaking to see this occur with newlyweds who were unprepared to handle the stress of quarantining together. Help is available! https://www.politico.com//26/mental-health-pandemic-431719
