Another horrific fire tragedy less than a week from the deadly Philadelphia fire. Initial findings indicate a space heater may be the cause of the fire, with a malfunctioning, stuck open, fire door contributing to rapid spread, limiting egress for other occupants. Our sincerest condolences are with the victims and their families. Our thoughts are with all of the brothers and sisters from FDNY. With that, we commend the work and efforts of the FDNY for the many successful rescues that were affected. Please view the final image for a few reminders regarding space heater safety. Additionally, never tamper with, or prop open fire doors. They are designed to either remain closed or close automatically, to protect means of egress so occupants may escape.

This is a tragic story, and our condolences are with the victims and their families. Preliminary findings have noted multiple fire safety hazards, however, investigations are ongoing in this incident. While you take a moment of empathy for the victims, also take a moment to consider the safety of you and your family. Here are a few fire safety reminders. An average of 1,450 fire deaths occur every year in homes with missing or nonfunctioning smoke alarms. Functioning smoke ...alarms save lives. Early warning means early egress. Fires can double in size every 30 seconds, meaning you may have 3 minutes or less before a space becomes deadly. Public spaces have maximum occupancies. This is to accommodate an efficient exit during an emergency. This principle applies to residential space as well. Overcrowding in residential living conditions poses a safety risk to occupants and to responders. This is especially true when overcrowding in residential spaces leads to occupants residing or sleeping in nonliving spaces such as basements or attics, where there is no adequate means of egress in the event of a fire. It is not only important to teach children about fire safety and the dangers of fire, but also to prevent access to ignition sources to children. Always ensure that items such as matches or lighters are secured, and out of reach of children. Make sure candles and inscents are also out of reach, and never unattended by an adult. If you leave a room where a candle is burning, the candle should be extinguished. Our sympathies are with all the victims and their families and friends. It is our hope that no tragedy like this happens again, but, you must do your part in fire safety to help us prevent fires. https://www.firerescue1.com//boy-5-told-first-responders-/
