The UAW went on strike nationwide at 11:59pm Sunday the 15th. Before any of you rush to judgement after hearing of GM's supposed "solid offer" I would like to e...nlighten you with the facts. After their bankruptcy filing, the union workers took concessions to do their part to ensure the corporation would survive. Since that time GM has made record profits every quarter since. In the last three years alone they have profited 35 billion dollars , yes that's Billion with a B. The CEO makes 22 million per year Their solid offer consisted of an annual 2% raise while requiring workers to pay 15% of their healthcare. They currently use temporary employees, some of which have been there for five years, five years as a temp, only three vacation days a year. This on top of the fact they have been required to work six days a week on average at least twice, sometimes three times a month. I would ask you to define temporary, 60 days, 90 days? We cannot and will not allow them to continue to exploit these people who perform the same work they do on a daily basis. It is extremely frustrating to be asked to give concessions in their time of need and not be rewarded in their time of success. I will stand beside my brothers and sisters as long as it takes to ensure they get the best possible contract for all of us.
