The fittest people you see aren’t necessarily the healthiest. At some point, more fitness stops equating to more health. It’s important to know the difference between performance and health. Most people in the gym are training to be healthy. They want to look, move and feel better OUTSIDE the gym.... Competitive athletes understand that they will sacrifice health in the pursuit of winning. They are not training to be healthy, they are training to beat their competitors, and they will do whatever it takes. If you are showing up to the gym to be healthy, improve your quality of life, and work on your fitness, you do not need to mimic competitive athletes. While testing our limits is fun, and even valuable when programmed appropriately, trying to exceed your capacity on a regular basis will not improve your health. If you are feeling pain during a movement, do not continue to do that movement. Modify it until you can get assessed, and address the issue. "Pushing through" isn't for health. If you are training to be healthy make sure your programming includes: squatting, hinging, lunging, pushing, pulling, carrying, and that it isn't doing any of those movements multiple days in a row. Squatting 4 days in a row won't making you better at squatting. (Remember: thrusters, squat cleans, squat snatches ...all squats). Excessive volume isn't for health. Training for sport is going to include heavy loading frequently, high volume gymnastics/high skill movements and training under fatigue. Training for health isn't... and shouldn't have to. See more

Many of us struggle with comparing ourselves to others. What the bigger issue is: we look at peoples end results rather than the journey that got them there. For instance, you see Mary got her first strict pull-up. While excited for her, you may start wondering why you don’t have a pull-up and start to think that you’re just not good enough. Then you wonder if there’s any point to you trying at all.... What you may not know, is that Mary has been working hard for the last 6 months to help her achieve her goal. She has made changes to her diet, made sure she’s getting enough sleep, and consistently putting in extra work at the gym. The point is, we often make comparisons without looking deeper in to the journey that has gotten someone where we would like to be. If you have goals you are seeing others reach that you haven’t made yet, try this: Start looking deeper in to your life to see if you are truly doing all it takes to get you there. Start having conversations with those you look up to to see what their journey has been like. Remember that goals take hard work, and be honest with how much time you’re willing to put in to it. Remember to have fun on the journey instead of always focusing on the end result!

December is low motivation month. December of 2020 is no exception. Holidays looking a little different, dreary weather, and less sunlight. With that said, we have a few tips for you to still take smalls steps forward even if you feel stuck in a rut with no motivation!... Win your morning. No matter the time you wake up, there is something to be said about your morning routine. Hitting the snooze button and rushing out the door often has a domino effect on the rest of your day. Start your day by getting up without hitting the snooze and you may find some extra time to prep for your day. Start small. We often feel we need to make big changes to see results, which can seem daunting. Instead of setting lofty, unsustainable goals try working on micro habits! For instance: Drinking a cup of water after every meal. Taking a 20 min walk every day. Eating 2 meals without distractions every day. The size of the goal is up to you, just make sure it’s attainable for where you’re at right NOW. Stay accountable. Accountability is a powerful (and often underutilized) tool. If you have no one watching you or no way to track your habits, you may not feel inclined to keep working at them. Pick a friend, coach, partner, or even a habits tracker to keep you accountable. You got this
