This picture, courtesy of the New York Public Library shows the north side of 23rd St at 10th Avenue around 1925. Do you see the elevated subway line at the corner of 9th Avenue? Notice the Metropolitan Life Insurance Building's steeple in the background.

Whether you are walking The High Line, checking out or buying art at a local gallery or need a great date destina...tion, The Red Cat never fails to disappoint. From the New York Magazine all the way to Zagat, critics rave how this is home to some of the best new-American fare accompanied with a charming, hoppin' ambiance. It's Friday! Earlier this week, our favorite, London Terrace Towers was featured in The Real Deal - the go to for all NY Real Estate news. The article wanted to share one of the many World War II era photos of #NYC that Yale University and the Library of Congress had collaborated with each other to provide. This collaboration can also be found online where they have posted 170,000 photographs taken in the U.S.A between 1938 and 1945. How crazy?! The old black and white picture featured in The Real Deal was taken in 1943 by John Vachon. For more information check out the featured article for yourself! ...And it's already that time again for a Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that London Terrace's developer's name is Henry Mandel, who was known as "The Donald Trump of the 1920s"? Did you ALSO know that Henry Mandel's recorded "death day" is tomorrow, October 10th but in 1942? London Terrace wouldn't exist without this genius developer, who managed to build the 14-building, 1670 unit project back in the 20s. Unfortunately, Mandel went bankrupt and slipped into foreclosure once ...the Great Depression had hit. The death of Mr. Mandel is still unclear as some sources say, for example his NY Times obituary, that he died at Lenox Hill Hospital after a brief illness while other sources say he tragically took his own life by jumping off the roof of London Terrace after he had declared bankruptcy. However, most believe that the suicide version is a rumor and created drama to give the historical building an even "better" story. #londonterrace #Chelsea #westchealsea #nyc #history #manhattan #realestate #architecture #brucewaynesolomonvisits See more

FEATURE FRIDAY! We hope all of our London Terrace fans are staying dry today and are going to get a hold of some hot cider this weekend. Our team here at London Terrace wanted to share another old-school promotional piece London Terrace utilized back in the day. Here, you can see a classy dressed woman enjoying the roof deck waving to the ships coming into the Pier. However, you'll notice that the address isn't the typical 405/465 West 23rd Street or 410/470 West 24th Street ...address...it says 435 West 23rd Street. This address is to one of the entrances to the rental units, hence "renting offices on premise". Although London Terrace takes up the whole block, some do not recognize that the "co-operative" (for sale) apartments are located in the "Towers" at 405/465 West 23rd Street and 410/470 West 24th Street. All the other properties in between the towers on both 9th and 10th Avenues are the "rental" units. Nowadays, the co-op units are a part of London Terrace TOWERS and the rental units, London Terrace GARDENS. #funfacts #londonterrace #Chelsea #westchelsea #nyc #history #brucewaynesolomonvisits See more

Did You Know That Annie Leibovitz, world renowned photographer was one of the famous and lucky residents of London Terrace Towers up until several years ago? For those who do not know who Annie Leibovitz is, she is an American photographer who was born in Connecticut in 1949. She started her career working for Rolling Stone back in 1970 where she climbed the ranks quickly and became the chief photographer in a short 3 years! After 10 years, Annie left the magazine to pursue... photographing for other magazines as well as creating her extraordinary personal work simultaneously. Instead of talking about the magnificent London Terrace Towers or how incredible of a neighborhood Chelsea is, we want to dedicate today to all the souls resting in peace from 911. 14 years have flown by with the snap of a finger, but no one will ever forget the tragedy and the stories and memories of those who passed and those who survived will live on forever. If you did not lose a loved one, family member or friend in the incident, then you probably knew someone who knew s...omeone. Regardless, lets all take a moment of silent at some point today to remember all the lives involved: the dead, the injured, the survivors and the heroes. The downtown skyline may have changed, but it will never be the same seeing the view with the towers. A beautiful moment happened during the eve of 9/11...a rainbow appeared in the sky that went to the other end of the city. Below is a great article from USA Today capturing that very special moment last night when the rain came and went. Please share this post in remembrance of 9/11. #nyc #neverforget #wtc #remember911 #nycrainbow http://www.usatoday.com//photos-rainbow-appears-/72043352/

In honor of this gorgeous weather and now that August is already coming to end, we want to celebrate Summer and share this old black and white photo of LTT's roof deck from the 1930's for this Flashback Friday! To this day, LTT boasts one of the most gorgeous, planted teak furnished roof decks in all of Manhattan. Women and men decades ago would sit up there soaking in the 360 degree city views while playing with their children, having a competitive game of cards or simply enjoying an iced tea. Often times residents would greet the ships coming into Chelsea Piers and wave to welcome the shipmen from their journeys. #westchelsea #chelsea #londonterrace #history #summer #brucewaynesolomonvisits #realestate

London Terrace Towers in West Chelsea 20.06.2019

We hope everyone has been enjoying their August so far! With this feature Friday, we wanted to show something a bit different. Everyone knows how important marketing and branding your product or yourself is important when it either comes to selling or simply getting yourself, product or brand out in the world and getting those impressions (if we want to speak in advertising terms). Impressions are simply all the eyes that have seen your specific marketing piece. Social media ...is clearly a top way of promoting, but back in the 1930's...well, London Terrace and the world did not have such a thing as a Facebook page. Below, is a sample of the many marketing pieces London Terrace did to promote people to purchase or rent a residence. Specifically, this marketing is from 1938 and was featured in The New Yorker. #londonterrace #Chelsea #westchelsea #advertising #history #brucewaynesolomonvisits #media

London Terrace Towers in West Chelsea 05.06.2019

It's officially August, which means this is the first Feature Friday for the month! We all know everyone boasts about London Terrace's amenity package today, but let's rewind and briefly discuss how it was back in the 1930's. After LT was developed, it featured way more than it's current package, which is the 1/2 Olympic size indoor heated pool, private locker rooms, state of the art gym, courtyard and planted, teak furnished roof deck. On top of ALL of this, the towers had a... rooftop area for the children, a "recreational club" for the penthouse, an in-house restaurant on the 9th Avenue side, page boys, a mail and package room, and a hotel-like maid service. One of our favorites is London Terrace's very own restaurant. The truth is, restaurants were popular back in the day to symbolize ultimate luxury and to make the residents feel as if they were royalty. Although the restaurant does not exist today, London Terrace is still a symbol of pre-war city royalty in West Chelsea. #westchelsea #Chelsea #londonterrace #history #finedining #architecture #brucewaynesolomonvisits

London Terrace Towers in West Chelsea 02.06.2019

Don't wave goodbye to summer just yet as we ALMOST roll into August with this great post. As many people may know, London Terrace has a gorgeous planted and teak furnished rooftop at the 470 tower and is perfect for entertaining friends and family during the summer. Here you have 360 views of Manhattan, the Highline / Chelsea Piers, Hudson River & much more. The advertisement below is from 1936 and depicts a woman waving to the passing ships coming in from it's journey on the Hudson River. THIS JUST IN! Did you know that not only was London terrace known as the largest apartment building in the world back in 1930 but that the $25 MILLION dollars (back then) project installed 1,669 Electrolux Refrigerators in 1,669 kitchens?! Now that is a lot of refrigerators. This one kitchen-ware example sheds light on how the materials needed for development could provide housing for approximately 25,000 people, which is around the size of Dedham, Massachusetts! To even begi...n to imagine that such an incredible residential development could have began so many decades ago. The Electrolux Refrigerators was chosen by London Terrace's chosen architect Mr. Victor Farrar along with the Henry Mandel Companies. Apparently, they were the most cost effective refrigerators and only ran on 5 to 10 cents a day and worked differently than other refrigerator models by having no inner machinery, simply operating on a gas flame and small water flow. London Terrace Towers in West Chelsea 09.05.2019

London Terrace Feature Friday time! This old, black and white picture of the towers was taken around the time of the Great Depression. The Depression did not stop the Tower's developer, Henry Mandel, in which the 10 central buildings (now the Gardens / rental residences) were finished in 1930. A year later, the 4 towers (known as the cooperative residences) were completed about a year later. Henry Mandel was inspired by Tuscan architecture and reflected such with London Ter...race. For example, London Terrace used alternating red and cream colored bricks in a vertical fashion as well as mosaics and intricate entrances to the towers. At the time of completion, the towers consumed the entire city block (9th - 10th Avenues and 23rd - 24th Streets) with 1665 apartments! If you have any stories, pictures and comments that you would like to be featured on the official page for London Terrace Towers, please send them in today! #londonterrace #Chelsea #westchelsea #realestate #architecture #history #brucewaynesolomonvisits

Back in the early 1900's, NYC employed "West Side Cowboys" to direct freight trains and to keep pedestrians out of the freights' way up and down 10th Avenue. Unfortunately, these "cowboys" slowly phased out after the High Line was built. Back in the 30's, the residents of London Terrace Towers were said to have watched the riders go up and down the avenue rain or shine. The picture on the left is dated from the 1930's and the picture on the right titled "Cowboys of the Cobblestones" is dated from 1911.
