At 1:01am, the City of Long Beach Fire Department was requested by the Nassau County Police Department to standby at The Plaza in West Atlantic Beach. Police were on the scene of a barricaded subject who had threatened to burn his house down and cause harm to law enforcement. Within a few minutes, smoke was observed coming from the second floor and the fire department was brought into the scene. Flames became visible from a single window and Chief Richard DiGiacomo transmitte...d a working fire. Additional resources were requested from surrounding agencies and were staged at The Plaza. As the fire continued to grow, firefighters attempted to extinguish the flames from the outside with little progress. Eventually, the fire engulfed the second floor and a determination was made to make entry and fight the fire from the inside as normal. Firefighters forced entry through the front door and began searching the home for any victims, as other firefighters advanced to the second floor. Within a few minutes, firefighters located an unconscious male inside the home and successfully rescued him, bringing him to safety. The fire was eventually brought under control within two hours and the scene remains active with police activity. We appreciate the protection and teamwork with the Nassau County Police Department! Two absolutely terrible accidents tonight on the Meadowbrook Parkway. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the first responders on the scenes. Please avoid the Meadowbrook Parkway tonight if possible.

Early this morning the City of Long Beach New York Fire Department was requested to the Meadowmere Park Fire Department for an engine, ladder and ambulance to the scene of a working house fire. Ladder 2362, Engine 2344 and Ambunance 2321 rolled as a house to the scene of the fire and assisted in stretching line, overhaul and transporting a victim to an area hospital. An Important Message from Acting Police Commissioner Phil Ragona In order to protect the safety of our residents, employees and first responders, effective this... Thursday, July 23 access to our beaches will now close at 8:00pm and our boardwalk at 9:00pm. This change will be in effect daily until further notice. In addition, we are now limiting the sale of non-resident daily passes to Monday through Thursday. Non-resident daily passes will not be sold Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Additional details about these changes will be discussed during tomorrow’s 7:00pm City Council meeting. The details will be posted on the City’s website shortly thereafter. We can't justify opening unless we can offer you quality food and drink with the same Blacksmith's love we normally give but in an even safer and cleaner setting than we already run. In order to properly set up for this shift in service we will be closed until next Thursday. . . In the meantime we will have a custom door built that will allow us to accomodate take-out orders safely and securely for both consumer and our employees. With this in place we will also offer delivery for those wishing to stay at home. We are not using a third-party delivery service and ask that you please tip our drivers. . . ~Food - We will have a slightly trimmed version of our current menu. . ~Pastry - We are working on a way to pre-order pastries to be added to your delivery order but that might not be possible. In which case pastries may only be for pick-up orders. . ~Bread - We are going to go back to CSB delivery roots back from 2016. We will start with one big bread bake for the week and will offer pick-up and delivery for the chosen date. This will take the guesswork and potential waste and/or disappointed late customer out of the equation. We will determine a delivery day, ordering method and deadlines ASAP. . . All of this stuff is a lot to manage and so we will be updating everything on here and our website. Today an Ex-Member of Lbfd Ladder 62 lost his daughter. She unfortunately lost her battle with Leukemia.
