Long Island, New York, Home With 200-Foot Pier Listed for $12.9 Million The seven-bedroom mansion with views of Oyster Bay was once owned by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees BY V.L. HENDRICKSON... ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED ON FEBRUARY 5, 2021 MANSION GLOBAL A nearly 100-year-old New York mansion that once belonged to Robin Gibb of The Bee Gees was listed last week for $12.9 million. Located in the Long Island village of Lloyd Harbor, the seven-bedroom, 10-bathroom home has views of Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor, 500 feet of water frontage and a 200-foot pier with a deep dock, according to listing agent Bonnie Williamson of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty. She shares the listing with Lauryn Koke, also of Sotheby’s. It has always been a very special house, Ms. Williamson said. Its name, ‘Kenjockety’ is an American Indian name for ‘far from noise,’ which gives you a sense of the privacy that you have there. In addition, the red brick, ivy-covered home has been meticulously restored over the last several years. About $7.5 million was spent in the process, according to Sotheby’s. Everything was done over the top, Ms. Williamson said, adding that keeping the integrity of the house was a key element of the renovation. The work was done to make it last another 100 years. Updates include a newly installed mahogany coffered ceiling which matches the original woodwork, custom mahogany closets, Venetian plaster wall treatments and new tilework throughout, according to the listing. Radiant floor heating has also been added, Ms. Williamson noted, and the plumbing and electrical systems have been replaced. The kitchen received an overhaul as well, and now features all-new Wolf and SubZero appliances, custom cabinetry with granite counters and a new breakfast room overlooking the water. The breakfast room that was added on to the kitchen is all window walls, so that definitely makes the kitchen nice and bright, Ms. Williamson explained. A winter garden room allows guests and residents to soak up the light among the indoor plants, listing photos show. Outside, the manicured grounds include two greenhouses, mature gardens and a Gunite pool. The pier has been restored and the concrete seawall was rebuilt, Ms. Williamson noted. There’s also a separate one-bedroom cottage and a four-car garage. The home was listed in early December, according to records. It was removed from the market on Jan. 14 and relisted at the end of January. It last traded in 2011 for $7.8 million, property records show. The current owner was unavailable for comment. Built by architect Bertram G. Goodhue in 1926, the mansion has only had six owners over the years. Gibb, one of the three brothers in the Bee Gees, which thrived in the disco era, owned the property until around 1983, according to a 2006 New York Times article. The musician died in 2012.

The long-awaited opening of Rock City Dogs in Bay Shore is coming fast February 3, 2021Ana Borruto The hot dog and rock n’ roll destination Rock City Dogs should be opening this March in the newly renovated 1 East Main Street building in Bay Shore.... Owner and lifelong rocker Stevie Reno said that after two years of planning and work on the project, he is jacked to introduce this frankfurter joint to the downtown, and the rest of Long Island. The former dentist’s office has been completely transformed into a 1970s classic rock and craft hot dog mecca, he told GreaterBayShore. The idea for the restaurant came to Reno while perusing a coffee table book about the all-time greatest album covers that his wife and now business partner, Vina Vollmer, had given him. While he was reading, in the background at his house played a television show about the best hot dogs in America. And just like that, Rock City Dogs was born in his head. Then his friends rallied. The team backing Reno includes Vollmer, his long-time pal and bandmate Stephen Bennett, and Jonathan Contes, a co-owner and co-chef from eatMOSAIC in St. James. Tom McGiveron is another junior partner involved in the restaurant. Reno didn’t want to reveal too much before the big opening, but did say there’s guitar-themed décor throughout Rock City’s dining room and bar area. He also made note of one eye-catcher: a massive, lit-up Rock City Dogs sign beaming above the bar. He’s calling the main dining room The Stage. The big idea is that dining at Rock City Dogs is meant to feel like a show, he said, with the patrons being the main event. It’s their stage, our customers, Reno said. It’s not ours, it’s theirs. The dining area will hold 42 seats. The bar will sit 13 with room for standing, along with four tables, give or take, outside. Keeping with the rock and roll theme, appetizers will be called Opening Acts, entrees will be called Headliners, and desserts will be, of course, Encores. The kid’s menu will be called Kids Rock. There’s also going to be a Dog Dash takeout window facing the street just ring the doorbell and a dog-dasher will be there to serve you. The interior is being designed by Dallago Associates, which also worked on Whiskey Down Diner in Farmingdale. As for the menu, look for 10 kinds of craft hot dogs inspired by rock bands, such as the signature Rock City Dog. But it’s not just dogs. There will be burgers made from custom beef blend patties, as well as salads and wings, rock-inspired cocktails and plenty of beer. Vollmer and Bennett believe Rock City Dogs will be a place people want to go for fun and to enjoy American staples by way of food and music. Especially the hot dogs. People love hot dogs, it’s a classic food, Vollmer said. Betty White has a hot dog every day!

3D-printed home on Long Island’s North Shore hits the market for $300,000 By Matt Hickman February 2, 2021 East, News, Technology Just an hour east of the f...irst mass-produced suburb in the United States, a new model of affordable, quick-to-build housing has been realizedand is now for salein the town of Riverhead on Long Island’s North Shore. Boasting three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a spacious open floor plan, the suburban New York home in question (asking price: $299,999) is far from your typical, wood-framed affair despite its unassuming-looking appearance complete with traditional siding and a shingled roof. Built with concrete and 3D-printed using the patent-pending Autonomous Robotic Construction System (ARCS) developed by Long Island-based construction technology company SQ4D, the 1,407-square-foot home is the first of its kind to receive a certificate of occupancy and hit the open market via a multiple listing service (MLS) according to the company. While numerous 3D-printed living spaces have been completed in recent years (many featured here on AN), most are diminutive/ADU-sized, experimental in nature, and not necessarily meant for permanent habitation. This isn’t the case with the home at 34 Millbrook Lane, which SQ4D has deemed as the very first permitted 3D-printed residence in the U.S. (This claim, however, is somewhat disputable, as pointed out by Gizmodo.) Situated on a quarter-of-an-acre lot just off of State Route 25 in the hamlet of Calverton, the energy-efficient home, designed by architecture and engineering firm H2M, also features a detached 750-square-foot car garage and a 50-year limited warranty offered by SQ4D for its 3D-printed structures. Most notably, the home’s foundation and interior and exterior walls were all printed on-site using ARCS technology and not fabricated within the controlled environment of an off-site warehouse before being transported to the site, as is often the case with 3D-printed structures. At $213 per square foot, the home at 34 Millbrook Lane costs roughly half of what newly constructed homes of comparable size built using conventional stick-built methods would go for in Riverhead. As listing agent Stephen King of Realty Connect noted in a press release, the home’s attainable cost represents a major step towards addressing the affordable housing crisis plaguing Long Island, particularly on and around the East End. The home’s hybrid nature required a bulk of it to be fabricated with a massive gantry-style 3D printer situated on rails while the rest of the structure, including its roof, was built using traditional techniques by a small teamoverall construction costs were driven down, much of them related to the cost of human labor, which doesn’t come cheap in New York City and environs. There is a need to combat all of the rising costs [in home construction], SQ4d co-founder and director of operations Kirk Andersen recently told the Riverhead News-Review. Automation is a way to do that. With a pair of open houses scheduled for this coming weekend, King, the listing agent, told the News-Review: My phone has been ringing off the hook.
