We had to say goodbye to our beautiful Dixie early this morning. She developed choke during the snow storm, and a veterinarian was unable to see her until the next day due to the weather and road conditions. She had developed pneumonia as a result and was hospitalized early evening yesterday. She went downhill fast overnight, and the last act of kindness we could provide was ending her suffering. Our hearts are heavy. Goodbye sweet baby, fly high with the angels.

4 years ago LSCF welcomed Passaic aka Anna into its sanctuary care. At the time Anna was a 15 year old OTTB in need of safe landing. Her pervious owner fell on hard times and had issues trying to home Anna since Anna had not received any retraining after her racing career. After researching the slaughter pipeline and fearing what could happen to Anna, she thought it best to humanly euthanize Anna. Luckily the vet who showed up to euthanize her could not do it in good cons...cience, and that’s when we got a call asking if we had room here on the farm for her, and now she will always have a place to call home. Anna is in need of sponsorship. Your sponsorship (monthly or annually) allows us to rescue another horse in need and will help provide food, shelter, veterinary care, hoof care, and more for a rescued horse that has been abused/neglected or an injured/retired OTTB. Miss Dixie was one of the first rescues our founders took in. She was once a camp trail horse, until her feet foundered and became painful. It has been a bumpy road to keeping her sound and happy. Currently she is in special glu on shoes which cost the foundation roughly about $400 and she has a farrier appointment coming up shortly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
