Loving Touch, Inc. 20.12.2020

Wishing you all a Very Happy and Healthy New Year! Our plans to celebrate our 20th Anniversary never happened due to the pandemic. We had a great event planned, a Roaring 20’s themed Fundraiser and Celebration! We started planning in February and by March everything was cancelled. We hope that we can still celebrate soon, when it is safe for everyone! Until then, thanks to everyone that has supported us throughout the 20 years of rescue and the many years prior to starting Loving Touch. Paul, Zulma and I have been helping animals and the community for 30+ years, and although we have slowed down quite a bit due to family obligations, we continue caring for many of our rescues and helping those in need to find loving homes. We look forward to making many more happy endings possible!

I couldn’t let the year end without sharing this happy ending for our rescue dog Darla. Although it’s not official on paper yet due to the pandemic and difficulty arranging a get together, but we are happy to announce that Darla is in her forever home. Last fall we took Darla into rescue when her guardian was forced to move and give her up due to his new landlord’s no pet policy on certain breeds. After reading a tearjerker post about Darla, who was about to be turned in...to a shelter the following day, we immediately asked some special friends, April and Neil, if either would consider fostering her. Both agreed to do what they could to help. We picked Darla up the following evening and as she entered our car she trembled and cried as her dad walked away. We did what we could to calm her and make her feel comfortable. The following day after her vet check we took her into Manhattan to meet her foster dad. On the way into Manhattan Darla cried and had the saddest look of confusion on her face, it was heartbreaking. We were concerned about how she would be in her foster home, but we were very confident that her foster dad and our friend April would do whatever it took to get her over her fears and depression. As we stepped out of the car a huge smile came over Darla’s face and she pulled us toward the apt. building that we were taking her to. Darla had lived in Manhattan at one time so it may have been familiar to her. Whatever it was, she was a dog on a mission that night. Adjusting to a new home and new people took a lot of work, but everyone involved was determined to do what was needed to see that Darla was placed in the proper home. Darla had everything from allergies to panic attacks so finding that right match was very important. Every applicant that was interested in Darla had the opportunity to meet her, but none of the homes were right for Darla, as per her very protective foster dad!! Fast forward to the Pandemic. Darla happily quarantined with her foster dad in Vermont. Darla’s best friend Louie was there too, making quarantine extra fun. So after spending so much time together we were told that Darla has found her forever home. Look at the smile on her face, that’s one happy dog! We couldn’t be happier. See more

Remember Leo, the tiny kitten from Laurelton, well here he is. Leo is all grown up now and finally a bit more calm (thanks to neutering).

I just realized that I never posted one of our rescues from late September. Meet Scout - a senior chihuahua mix. Scout is deaf and partially blind. He was found in the South Jamaica area by a fellow rescuer while he was out helping a stray cat. He was told that Scout had been walking the streets for at least 2 weeks. He put Scout into a carrier and called us asking for help. This little dog was so grateful to be off the street. He has been in a foster home and will most likely be adopted by his foster family.

Sammi, a beautiful senior mixed breed rescued from the city shelter, has officially been adopted. Sammi joined her new family in early February. Our plan was to visit her in one month and do a final adoption. Due to the pandemic, we had to put her adoption on hold. We finally visited Sammi yesterday. We weren’t sure if she would remember us. We were so happy when she came running over to us with a big smile on her face. It was so nice to see her again and to see how happy she is with her new family. Sammi is a hit with the neighbors too.
