How can we transform nursing homes into warm, vibrant communities in which residents AND staff thrive? Register for LTCCC's next webinar (April 20) featuring Cathy Unsino, LCSW. https://nursinghome411.zoom.us///WN_skNnhCBmTKWJO15knePJew
This is important because we are hearing all kinds of excuses from nursing homes and other residential care settings about why they need to minimize or prevent visitation. Facilities need to treat residents humanely and provide visitation in accordance with federal guidance for EVERYONE! No more excuses! Studies have shown the risk of contracting COVID-19 from a contaminated surface is "generally less than 1 in 10,000," and in most cases, household cleaners rather than disin...fectants are sufficient to ward off virus levels, the CDC said in updated guidance published April 5. The primary mode of infection is through exposure to respiratory droplets, the agency said. "Based on available epidemiological data and studies of environmental transmission factors, surface transmission is not the maine route by which SARS-CoV-2 spreads, and the risk is considered to be low," the CDC said. "The principal mode by which people are infected is through exposure to respiratory droplets carrying infectious virus." In community settings, there is little evidence to support the routine use of disinfectants, the agency said, adding that in most cases, cleaning surfaces with soap or detergent once per day effectively reduces virus levels. If there's been a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case within the last 24 hours in an indoor setting, disinfection is still recommended.

It has been over a year since the pandemic emergency began. Far too many residents have suffered and died. Far too many families have faced unimaginable pain and loss. Far too many nursing homes could not be trusted to provide decent infection control or humane treatment. In all this time we have not heard a single provider apologize or take any responsibility. Here, a highly paid industry lobbyist regurgitates the same baloney that the industry has parlayed for years. He does not want penalties or accountability. His answer to the catastrophe that residents and families have faced? Pay nursing homes no matter how bad the care is and, if the care is half way decent, give them a bonus.
