THANK YOU For believing that American theatre benefits from the presence of diverse voices THANK YOU... For your past support of Liberation Theatre Company, as we provide a supportive home for emerging Black playwrights THANK YOU For supporting us now as we refocus and regroup following the pandemic shutdown, in order to find new ways to help more playwrights We don’t have to tell you how difficult the past 20 months have been. All of us have had to change the way we operate, and in some cases, cease operations just to concentrate on survival. Small theatre companies like Liberation, with our very specific mission, now have to rethink how we do business in order to help the writers we serve. On this Giving Tuesday, your financial contribution of $25, $50, $100 or any amount, will enable us to restart our programs, create spaces and opportunities where Black playwrights can come together either in-person or virtually to work on new plays, develop existing ones, network with industry professionals and experience live theatre. The theatre world is changing and Liberation Theatre Company is poised to help playwrights take advantage of those changes. With your help, we can do more and help more. To that, we say THANK YOU DONATE https://fundraising.fracturedatlas.org/liberation-theatre-c Liberation Theatre Company is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Liberation Theatre Company must be made payable to Fractured Atlas only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Liberation Theatre Company (LTC) is proud to present our fifth year of The Writing Residency Program 2022 - 2023 (supported by NYSCA); furthering our commitment to the development of new Black playwrights for the American theatre. We will select four early-career playwrights and provide them with dramaturgical and professional support over a ten-month period, during which time they will each be required to complete a new full-length play. Beginning in May 2022, selected play...wrights will attend monthly group meetings to share and refine their works-in-progress in a collaborative, energized setting via Zoom; meet individually with LTC’s Artistic Director and staff who will provide additional support for their artistic needs, concerns and process; and have the resources of a director and professional actors during a table reading as their play begins to take shape. Additionally, through connections with the larger New York City theatrical community, LTC will provide access to theatre tickets (when available) and seek to support, inspire, and assist playwrights in any way a small and dedicated company can. The Residency will conclude in February 2023 with public readings of each playwright’s finished play. Upon successful completion of the program, each playwright will receive an honorarium. https://liberationtheatrecompany.submittable.com//liberati

American Lyric Theater, a company that develops opera writers and composers in New York City is offering a two year stipend-supported artist residency for creatives to develop specifically as opera writers, all the way from commissioning them to shepherding their projects into production. The stipend for the Composer Librettist Development Program has been raised to its highest level ever this year, to help remove barriers to entry for artists, and is now $20’000 a year for ...two years. The CLDP only receives an intake of new artists every 1-4 years, so that those artists can have maximum resources and opportunity. This year will be their first intake since 2017, and they're trying to share information about the CLDP with as wide and diverse a group of storytellers as possible. ALT considers it their mission to serve artists emerging as opera creators at any age (they are often extremely accomplished creatives in other mediums) so this two year residency and the symposium preceding it might be equally of interest to established and successful creatives as well as emerging ones. As a ’taster’ for the CLDP program (and prior to their application period opening in March) they’re offering a free symposium series with their most eminent faculty and multi-award winning creatives in the field (including David Henry Hwang, Thulani Davis, Andrea Davis Pinkney, Richard Wesley, DBR, Pulitzer winner Anthony Davis, Mark Adamo and many others) from February 27-April 4. The Symposium is comprised of 6 mini courses. Writers and composers can sign up for any or all of the courses of interest, such as Dramatizing History and Opera as Activism and From Erased to Self-Empowered: Celebrating BIPOC Opera Composers and Librettists. There are also highly practical skills classes, like outlining and legal prep for adaptation. This is top flight, free symposium will encourage participants to apply for the CLDP when applications open March 1. https://www.altnyc.org/cldp-opera-writers-symposium
