#ArtBaselOVR | Our presentation of works by Ragnar Kjartansson for Art Basel’s Online Viewing Room is now live. Inspired by the dramatic natural environment and panoramic views in his native Iceland, depictions of landscapes feature prominently throughout the artist’s oeuvre. Following in the artistic tradition of illustrating the picturesque and sublime, this selection of Kjartansson’s paintings and videos convey his passion for portraying the subject’s beauty as well as its... banality. Follow this link and enter our viewing room now: https://bit.ly/3a9DOw6 #RagnarKjartansson #LuhringAugustine #ArtBasel Image: Ragnar Kjartansson, video still from Figures in Landscape (Sunday), 2018, single-channel video, duration: 24 hours

Check out David Rhodes wonderful review in The Brooklyn Rail of Philip Taaffe's solo exhibition at Luhring Augustine Chelsea! "What is consistent is that the paintings, as paintings, are anchored through composition and gesture to arrive somewhere here between Paul Klee and Jackson Pollock. The endlessly inventive surfacealways abutting the material supportremains frontal and carpeted in pulsating and shifting patterns. Visual depth is continuously variegated with the use of flat silhouetted shapes in a varying succession of planes, that are overlapping and rhythmical. ..." EXTENDED | Janine Antoni’s critically acclaimed exhibition, I am fertile ground, located in The Green-Wood Cemetery's Catacombs has been extended through Sunday, December 1. The installation, described by Jillian Steinhauer in The New York Times as simultaneously thrilling and haunting, a dichotomy that gets to the very heart of being human, is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am 4pm. #JanineAntoni #IAmFertileGround #HistoricGreenWood #GreenWoodCemeter...y #NEAArts #LuhringAugustine Image: Janine Antoni, My waters rest, 2019, Mixed media gilded with 24 karat gold leaf. On September 21, Janine Antoni will unveil I am fertile ground, a site-specific commission at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery. Marking the Cemetery’s first major artistic commission, Antoni’s work will be installed in the historic underground Catacombs, and will be accompanied by a series of public programs. Visit the link in the bio to find out more. In I am fertile ground, Antoni uses the language of religious icons to pay homage to the body's wisdom. She captures emotio...nally resonant gestures that remind us that bodily positions invite spiritual states. As the artist describes, "I gild the active embodiment of the spirit, paying reverence to the knowledge of the body itself, buried in muscle memory." Each work enshrines a gesture, rendering it both exalted and fragile. #JanineAntoni #IAmFertileGround #GreenWoodCemetery #LuhringAugustine Image: Janine Antoni, I open the gates, 2019, Mixed media gilded with 24 karat gold leaf, 23 x 25 7/8 x 2 1/4 inches (58.42 x 65.72 x 5.72 cm).
