Luria Academy of Brooklyn 02.02.2021

Amanda Pogany, our Head of School, strives to give our children a full education, an education that stretches their minds, nourishes their hearts, and ushers them into the great joys and responsibilities of communal life. Our community is a model of Jewish life that supports a rigorous commitment to learning and an appreciative and diverse vision of the many ways to live as Jews. None of this is by accident. It is because we are blessed with a leader who knows how to build community. This past Sunday, Amanda received the Covenant Award at a virtual ceremony. We are thrilled to invite you to watch this wonderful celebration of Luria and our leader. Enjoy this tribute to Amanda and Luria Academy!

"When Luria Academy, a Montessori Jewish day school in Brownstone Brooklyn, contemplated the task of reopening its doors to students and teachers for the new school year, there were more questions than answers... We were never a school with kids sitting at desks in rows, said Amanda Pogany, Luria’s head of school. Among other differences from a conventional classroom setting, a Montessori school allows students freedom of movement as students engage with a diverse variety of educational materials, rather than just pencils and paper."

Head of School Amanda Pogany’s thoughtful reflection on the strong leadership required during this challenging time. We are opening our doors on August 31st because we believe it is best for our students. They deserve to connect with friends, in person. They need to be supported and nurtured emotionally and academically by our teachers, in person. We know that the experience of celebrating Jewish life and building Jewish identity is enhanced by being in community, and that is what we are here to do.
