Juneteenth Marked as a Federal Holiday! Juneteenth was first proposed as a federal holiday in 2012 by a Senator from Texas, and rising support for federal recognition brought the re-introduced Juneteenth National Independence Day Act to both the House and the Senate in this 117th Congress. On June 15th 2021, the Senate unanimously passed the bill, and, on June 16th 2021, the House passed it. The bill was taken to President Biden who signed it into law the next day to take effect immediately. Juneteenth is now officially commemorated as a federal holiday and a day to celebrate independence for all. #juneteenth
