The building is a slender, un-encumbered volume that marks the geometric center of the skyline. The historic, 51-story Art Deco tower was designed by Ralph Walker and completed in 1931. It was the former headquarters of the Bank of New York and Irving Trust Company. The 88-year old Financial District icon is currently undergoing a $1.5 billion residential conversion and expansion which will include a five-story addition. This new section i...s underway and being constructed above the adjoining mid-century annex. Robert A. M. Stern Architects previously did the overbuild design and worked on the landmarks process with Macklowe Properties. SLCE Architects is the architect of record while CORE is handling sales and marketing of the planned 566 condominiums.
