Here are some great old shots of Madrid courtesy of Jim Walker and Cheryl LaBarge, via Philip Lloyd Paige. We just love seeing pictures like this!

Robbie Johnston (my grandfather) in the garden at their farm just outside of DePeyster on the right going toward Heuvelton. He was well-known for his immacula...te white barn with red geraniums in all the windows and his beauitful herd of Jerseys. Photo taken around 1960. Robbie and Lillie moved to the USA in May of 1928. They first lived near the Porteus Place and then moved to the Pine Grove/Madrid Road nr. Lisbon; and then onto the Porteus Place near the creek on Saturday, March 2 Lillie unpacked a barrelful of dishes wrapped in paper, handing them to Rose who was about twelve. Earle was born the next day. They lived there about a year. Robbie and Lillie moved to Madrid to the Walker Place around 1937 where they lived for five or six years. They lived in the large brick house there, farming the land on shares and making maple syrup. The farm was owned by Mable Walker Hargrave. From there, they moved to the Lauralee Farm aka The Partridge Place on the Fish Creek Road where they lived in half of the spacious home, later owned by the Mansel Brown family. The Partridges spent summers at Lauralee, spending winters in their apartment in Bronxville. Rose lived for a time with them there, working for them and working at Sarah Lawrence College. Robbie and Lillie Johnston bought their DePeyster Farm in April of 1943 for about eight thousand dollars.
Exciting news out of Waddington!
