Spring is here! The sap is flowing like crazy with the full moon and warm temps, record flow! We’ve added a leaf blower to the system which really speeds up the boil! Can’t leave it on all the time or the cooker turns molten red! More lessons learned! The 75 trees that we installed tubing on, dump right into the holding tank which then trickle feed the cooker pan...gotta love gravity! (Now that it’s on our side and we’re not carrying heavy jugs of sap uphill!) still 400 sap b...ags to collect each day, which is really getting old! The joy of seeing that sap flow right into the tank is seriously better then anything I’ve ever experienced before!!!! It wasn’t easy installing the lines! Hard physical work, and much thinking to design it right, but great to be in the waking up forest knowing what your doing will cut down on all that labor FOREVER! Such a fun and rewarding project! Pure forest sugar made with no harm done to anyone-unlike the sour legacy of white sugar...I guess after 6 years of this, we could consider it a spring tradition... we are def looking forward to a much more efficient set up in the near future! But for now, it’s open air cooking and still lots of sap bag collecting. Yet another sweet sticky spring! And the beginning of summer’s chaos! See more
