Main Window Dumbo 30.06.2021

FINAL WEEK! . Stop by Main Window to see the site-specific installation by Nathan Randall Green. . ‘Our Star (5 Skies)’ is a painting installation in five parts, designed and created for Main Window Dumbo. The work uses simple geometric shapes to illustrate movements of the sun and the changes in quality of light. The artist hopes to conjure the twilight horizon and the sense of contemplation and wonder that accompanies it.... . Nathan Randall Green’s colorful paintings and murals often explore scientific and cosmological ideas while examining the formal and structural qualities of abstract painting within its rich history. Utilizing line, form, color and texture, Nathan creates deep, painterly landscapes of graphic information that speak to the way we measure, chart and map our world. . Green received his BFA from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a founding member and partner of Okay Mountain Gallery and Collective in Austin, Texas and was a Curator of Education at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Most recently his work has been exhibited at Walter Storms Gallery in Munich, SPRING / BREAK in New York; The Pit Presents in Los Angeles; Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York; Barry Whistler Gallery in Dallas; and Left Field in San Luis Obispo, California. He has also participated in Artist-In-Residence programs in Connecticut, New York, Vermont, Michigan, Illinois, and Dallas, and has painted murals around the country. . Green’s installation is viewable 24/7 through May 7, 2021. . #nathanrandallgreen #painting #sitespecificinstallation #installation #ourstar #fiveskies #mainwindowdumbo #MWD2021 #dumbo #brooklyn See more

UP NEXT: Main Window Dumbo is excited to announce the upcoming installation by Patricia Miranda. . Patricia Miranda is a New York artist, curator and educator, and founder of MAPSpace and The Crit Lab. Her work includes installation, textile, and books colored with plant and mineral dyes. Miranda’s focus is on materials with long cultural histories: historical lacemaking; textile as a form that wraps our bodies from cradle to grave; and ancient color sources such as oak gall ...wasp nests, cochineal insects, indigo, and clay. Sewn into large shroud-like works, she layers objects of lamentation akin to votives, reliquaries, and other ritualized body forms from hair, pearls, bone beads, Milagros, metal, and cast plaster. Recent installations began with her grandmothers’ linens, and grew from unsolicited donations from friends and strangers. Through the mending of donated repurposed materials, and the alchemy of turning rocks, bugs, and flowers into color, she speaks to an ecology of art, history, environment and community. Patricia Miranda has been awarded residencies at I-Park, Weir Farm, Vermont Studio Center, and Julio Valdez Printmaking Studio. She has received grants from Anonymous was a Woman Covid Relief, ArtsWestchester/New York State Council on the Arts, and was part of a year-long NEA grant working with homeless youth. Miranda has exhibited at ODETTA Gallery, ABC No Rio, Wave Hill, and Rio II Gallery, in NYC; Alexey von Schlippe Gallery at UConn Avery Point, Groton, CT; Cape Museum of Fine Art, Cape Cod MA; and Belvedere Museum, Vienna Austria. All lace in the Main Window installation was donated for the project. Work courtesy of ODETTA. . Miranda’s installation is viewable 24/7 from December 18, 2020 through February 12, 2021. . #patriciamiranda #installation #mainwindow #mainwindowdumbo #MWD2020 #dumbo #brooklyn

ON VIEW: Main Window Dumbo is excited to present an installation by artist Lina Puerta. . Puerta writes: Works from the Botanico Series (2010-ongoing) are inspired by weeds and wild untamed, nature within urban spaces. They explore the tension between the human and botanical world. . As we strive to exert control over nature, nature responds with perseverance and resilient power, as weeds slowly move into abandoned spacesspreading and reclaiming its space. ... . In this series, I use a variety of materials, including artificial plants that are normally designed to adorn and create maintenance-free gardens. Such manufactured plants are normally depicted in their prime state, often flowered and un-wilted, yet static and under our complete control. I deconstruct these plants and rearrange them to mimic weeds or wild nature, referencing the remarkable strength and resiliency present in nature. Other materials like lace, sequined fabrics beads and jewelry are used to reference the body, as we are part of nature, but also to allude to the celebratory and joyful aspect inherent in nature and in ourselves. . Puerta’s installation is viewable 24/7 September 17 through December 10, 2020. . #linapuerta #linapuertaart #botanicaseries #installation #mainwindow #mainwindowdumbo #MWD2020 #dumbo #brooklyn See more
