| "So-called millennial pink is hugely popular in fashion right now, but has also become the most sought-after color in furniture design, this year's Milan design week revealed. The name millennial pink was coined to describe a muted shade of the color somewhere between beige and blush. With other design trends thin on the ground during Milan design week last month, the color somehow managed to become one of the most noticeable crazes. Not only was it showcased by popular b...rands including Moroso, Muuto and Normann Copenhagen, it featured on the event's most Instagrammed installation, Marc Ange's Le Refuge. Italian designer Matteo Cibic used the shade for two projects he showed in Milan. One was a series of 365 anthropomorphic vases." -Amy Frearson, Dezeen. | #design #designer #designdaily #designlovers #designoftheday #interiordesign #interiorstyling #style #architecture #architecturelovers #livingspace #international #contemporary #contemporarydesign #inspiration #designinterior #designinspiration #inspo #inspodaily #instagood #instadaily #maisonmere #apartmentdesign #instastyle #furniture #furnituredesign #italy #millenialpink #milan #pink

| "Fashion designer Sruli Recht used translucent cow skin leather to create the Apparition collection for Dutch company ECCO. The collection is the result of a three-year project, during which Recht and a team from ECCO's Netherlands leather lab aimed to create the world's first transparent cow-hide leather. Although translucent leather had previously been achieved with smaller hides, such as goat and sheep, it had been hard like parchment. Recht wanted to create a supple ver...sion that could be manipulated to create garments. After studying what other designers had done to achieve translucent leathers over recent years, Recht began to apply up-to-date manufacturing methods to solve practical issues, such as lasting pliability and water resistance. The result was Apparition, which Recht named after its 'spectral qualities and almost ghostlike appearance'. This material was then translated into garments and shoes in hues of amber, green, black, orange and blood red." -Alice Morby, Dezeen. | #design #designlovers #designdaily #designinspiration #fashion #fashiondesign #fashionshow #apparel #couture #runway #runwayfashion #sports #contemporary #contemporarydesign #abstract #abstractart #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity #ny #maisonmere #inspiration #inspo #inspodaily #instagood #instadaily #love #fashioninspiration #international #technology

| "Four cylindrical towers are elevated on stilts to create this retreat in Cape Town, which was designed by local studio Malan Vorster to offer views among the trees. The Cape Town-based architects designed the residence for a client who wanted their hideaway in the Constantia suburb of the South African capital that resembles a tree house. The aim was to respond to the height of the tall trees surrounding the clearing to maximize views from the highest part of the sloped si...te. Battens of red cedar wrap the building, with larger gaps around the windows and tighter spacing to provide privacy for the residents. Inside, four structural columns feature at the center of each of the rounded volumes. At the top, arms branch out to create large circular rings that support the floors above. These columns, arms, and rings are all constructed from laser-cut and folded Corten steel plate and connect to the exposed timber flooring with hand-turned brass components." -Eleanor Gibson, Dezeen. | #design #designer #designdaily #designlovers #designoftheday #interiordesign #interiorstyling #style #architecture #architecturelovers #livingspace #international #contemporary #contemporarydesign #inspiration #designinterior #designinspiration #inspo #inspodaily #instagood #instadaily #apartmentdesign #studio #trees #homedesign #decor #southafrica #treehouse #capetown #cedar

| "Architecture office Carlo Ratti Associati used digital processes to produce this collapsible wooden stool that can be adjusted into different predetermined shapes. The Swift stool was shown at Cassina's 90th-anniversary exhibition, Cassina 9.0, at Milan design week. It demonstrates a design approach that the architecture office which is led by Italian architect and MIT professor Carlo Ratti calls 'implicit programming'. The approach sees the team use digital design and... fabrication methods to tailor an object so it can take different preset forms. In the case of the Swift stool, this is enabled through an elaborate system of individually designed joints and hinges that allow the stool to snap into its various positions. The 27 rounded wood elements of the chair can sit in a flat, comb-like shape against the wall, and then be flipped around to form a seat with various leg configurations." -Rima Sabina Aouf, Dezeen. | #design #designinspiration #designdaily #designlife #designer #furniture #furnituredesign #chair #contemporary #contemporarydesign #inspiration #inspo #inspodaily #instagood #instadaily #decor #sculpture #interiordesign #style #archdaily #architecture #archilovers #digitaldesign #fabrication #milan #italian #italy #MIT #digital #milandesignweek
