Makeup By Noel

Last winter I was asked by a friend and a fabulous designer, Mia Vesper to do makeup for a new collection of her clothing that she was sending out to a very spe...cial client. She told me who, but it was all in discussion and had to be very hush hush. Two days ago we shot the same collection and I was told that the client bought the dresses, but we weren’t sure if they were being used in this secret project. Then today...there they were in all their glory on the beautiful Beyoncé in the new visual album Black Is King. I’m so proud of you Mia and so glad you trust me to be part of your vision. Today’s setup. All items that I could possibly think I would use on my model were taken out of my kit and displayed. All surfaces/table were sanitized and an extra layer of paper towel was put down for more of a barrier. My kit was placed more than 8 feet away from my working station and my model to ensure no cross contamination of my kit and my workspace. Kit was also close and covered with a disposable cape. When my model entered my clean space I gave them specific instruc...tions. The chair they were sitting in was sprayed and sanitized. The products were all wiped down and the plastic bin was there for items that can not be sanitized after use on set. The model was instructed before removing her mask that unfortunately once the mask comes off she cannot speak unless she raises her hand, I step away and she holds her mask to her face. A disposable cape was used to protect her clothing and to ensure that there was yet another barrier between us. I had on a mask and a face shield to ensure my germs would not project on to her face. No hands/fingers were used, all sanitized tools and disposables. I did not wear gloves because I needed to be able to sanitize my hands, but offered the use of them if the model felt more comfortable. If there were multiple models I would change my gloves between clients, but only if each person requested me to wear them. Gloves are a false security but again, comfort is important. After the makeup was on she was given a face shield that she could hold to her face if she needed to speak on set. The model is not able to wear a mask after the makeup is applied because it can disturb what’s been applied. There’s a lot of additional steps and procedures to do my job now. Not to mention products and supplies needed. It’s hard not talking to my model/talent. That was one of the great joys of my job was being able to socialize while I work.
