Those who know Eileen and me, know we follow Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from an American every day. She is a professor of Ameican history in Boston and does a daily deep dive into current events connecting the dots to historical movements. In recognition of the upcoming film DREAM HORSE and the Kentucky Derby, we reprint her latest letter here: 1) Traveller General Robert E. Lee rode Traveller (spelled with two Ls, in the British style) from February 1862 until the gene...Continue reading

As discussed earlier, we are again looking for good stuff to recommend to you. Again, the theatre will be participating in the proceeds. MACEDONIAN TEENAGERS BROKE THE CODE.... THE REST OF THE WORLD FACED THE CONSEQUENCES... In 2016, an army of teenagers in Macedonia discovered a wildly lucrative game of posting false political clickbait news articles on Facebook for profit. By creating websites leading up to the presidential election that published sensationalized and misleading news stories about American politics, they generated a massive income and influenced the election. Selling Lies offers a rare glimpse inside the secret network behind these websites, including one notorious ringleader whose social media reach had vast implications on American readers, and explores how disinformation campaigns are continuing to strongly impact the U.S. today leading into the 2020 presidential election. The film will be available as of Friday, October 9th at the following address: https://sellinglies.vhx.tv//selling-lies-4-manlius-art-cin Happy viewing, Nat and Eileen

Hi all, We wish we had some good news to impart but, alas, we are still waiting for Albany to allow us to operate. We have requested permission to do small private events but we hold out no hope that this too will be allowed. Several folks have asked if the removal of posters from in front of the theatre boded bad news. It does not. We are still hoping that we can endure this madness and reopen with a renewed determination. The posters were 6 months old and were really worn.... We stopped recommending virtual cinemas several months ago. The reason was the films that were being offered were priced too low for the theatre to earn anything helpful. That being said, if you would like us to further offer some virtual rentals, please let us know and we will accommodate with pleasure. Finally, Eileen and I want to wish you safety and health and we miss seeing you all, Eileen and Nat

Hi all, First and most importantly, we hope all are well and safe from this virus. Eileen and I miss you all and cannot wait to get back to sharing quality entertainment with you. Here is the current situation: Because a good number of theatres around the country are not and/or cannot open, the major film companies are pushing their major summer films back (many to after Labor Day). This creates a situation where there are no new films out there to present...so the theatres a...re pushing their openings back as well. AMC has announced that their circuit will not open until mid to late August...and that is not set in stone. (Note: because we are an independent theatre, there is a wider variety of product that we could access once we are allowed to open.) So the only word I can think of to describe the situation is disheartening. Our little theatre is caught in a whirlpool not of our making and out of our control. We must wait on other factors to get us out of this mess. We do want to thank all the support we have received from you. What keeps us going is the feeling of not wanting to let the community down. Please stay safe, Nat and Eileen

Hi all, This week we add DEERSKIN to our online line-up. In this black comedy of middle-aged masculinity gone awry, Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist) is a recent divorcee who becomes obsessed with a vintage fringed deerskin jacket that begins to exert an uncanny hold on him. Set in a sleepy French alpine village, he falls into the guise of an independent filmmaker and befriends a trusting bartender and aspiring editor (Adèle Haenel, Portrait of a Lady on Fire)... who becomes his collaborator on a movie that will document a surprising new goal he sets himself. Here is the trailer for the film: https://deerskin.vhx.tv//deerskin-/videos/deerskin-trailer . You can find the film here: https://deerskin.vhx.tv/pro/deerskin-for-manlius-art-cinema National Theatre is featuring Frankenstein on its YouTube channel for the next week. Kino Lorber (who originated Kino Marquee) has a documentary called AMERICAN NURSE for free viewing. A very interesting doc on a very special profession. See it here: https://kinonow.com/american-nurse. The end date to view THE ROADS NOT TAKEN in May 7 and next week we will add THOUSAND PIECES OF GOLD to the line-up. Here is the trailer for the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGp3xbbmsWU&feature=youtu.be. Stay safe and healthy, Nat and Eileen

WE MISS YOU! Eileen and I want to extend our very best wishes for a Happy Passover and Holy Week. We continue to add films to our 'screening room.' This week we add THE ROADS NOT TAKEN from Bleeker Street. Sally Potter's film follows a day in the life of Leo (Javier Bardem) and his daughter, Molly (Elle Fanning), as he floats through alternate lives he could have lived, leading Molly to wrestle with her own path as she considers her future. ... Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE0pvT1Lgrg. So, to recap, here are the films playing in the Manlius Art Cinema Screening Room: Screen 1 Bacurau: https://kinonow.com/bacurau-manlius-art-cinema. Screen 2 Once Were Brothers: https://magnoliapictures.com/manliusartcinema-oncewerebroth. Screen 3 The Whistlers: https://magnoliapictures.com/manliusartcinema-thewhistlers Screen 4 The Woman Who Loves Giraffes: https://kinonow.com/the-woman-who-loves-giraffes-manlius-ar Screen 5 The Roads Not Taken: https://roadsnottaken.vhx.tv/products/manilus-cinema. Additionally, don't forget that National Theatre is streaming one show a week on YouTube and I read that Andrew Lloyd Webber will be streaming some Broadway shows as well. Stay safe and be healthy, Nat and Eileen

Eileen and I hope that you are well, safe and sane. (This country is going to have a big mental health issue to deal with after.) What a surreal world it has become...almost like the disaster novels that were written in the 60's. A couple of program notes. Exhibition on Screens Easter in Art has been postponed until next year. On the upside, they are streaming their film VINCENT VAN GOGH: A NEW WAY OF SEEING on Facebook on March 30. Details are on their Facebook page: https:...//www.facebook.com/exhibitiononscreen. National Theatre Live is making four of their productions available for free starting in April. I have asked for details to pass along to you. Lastly, several of you had asked how to help the theatre weather this storm. We have hooked up with Kino Marquee to present new and acclaimed films for a $12 fee which will be split with the theatre. They are presenting it as the Manlius Art Cinema Screening Room. Titles will be rented for a 5 day period and it is our plan to limit the bookings to one week each. As soon as I get the information, I will pass it along. Again, we treasure our theatre family and want you all to stay well. Virtual elbow bumps, Nat and Eileen
