So here's today entry on why you should do your homework and research your contractor. As an electrician as long as I have been I know a quality job , and one that I find myself in now. The General contractor that built this addition leaves a little bit to be desired. When 5 hour days lead to early afternoons at the bar , you might not want to hire that guy. Always get references, and ask other tradesmen. In the end that guy is walking away with your money and you're left with a shitty result.

Today's PSA Most electricians I know have their own way of doing things. They also take pride in the way things look when they are finished. That said the thought process of "I can save money by doing some of it" often does nothing more than piss off the person you are hiring and ultimately cost you more money in most cases. Theres a saying : Cheap labor isn't good and good labor isn't cheap.

So today's travels had me to 2 locations. The first had 3 lights that no longer worked. After a half hour crawling around an attic with blown in insulation I found the problem. A bad joint in a junction box. The second was a trailer that had no power. After testing out things I found that the neutral in the outside disconnect had never been hood up under the lug because it was about an inch short. Moral of today's story : the "electricians" that did work before me were less than compitant. As a result their work ultimately failed. So know the person you are hiring.
