In the last 20 months during the pandemic, an even Greater Respect to a respected profession. @VFWHQ @VeteransNewYork @MassapequaPatch
An extraordinary photograph. Infantry marching ahead in single file to the front line. Along the sky line a train of mules is carrying ammunition forward to the... light guns. All around may be seen the wastage of battle which typifies Westhoek, during WW1. Photograph taken by Captain Frank Hurley, the well-known Australian war photographer. Lest We Forget. Photograph came from the State Library of New South Wales. Image file number IE10890294.

Honoring the memory of Veterans the last mile of the way! A group of volunteers recently escorted the remains of WWII and Korean War Veteran, Colonel Wallace T...aylor on his final journey to his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky as part of a Final Mile ceremony. The trip took three days and nearly 2,000 miles to fulfill Colonel Taylor’s wish to be put to rest in a burial site beside his mother. James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA), partners in the Final Mile program to escort deceased Veterans without family to their final resting place. The Final Mile program ensures that Veterans who pass away with no one to claim their remains are not alone on their final trip for interment. The CVMA was joined by other motorcyclists on the escort route like those in the Kentucky Patriot Guard. This was the first multiday cross-country escort since the Final Mile program began in 2019 and was a round trip of almost 2,000 miles.
"DAD! Stop the car!!!" That was the cry from my son in the backseat as we were leaving the Panera parking lot. I hit the brake and Harrison suddenly rolled ope...n the side door of the van and raced over to three men sitting outside. The men are veterans, and my son has made it his quest to thank a veteran...wherever they may be...for their service. He got back in the van, excited and out of breath. "Dad, those three men were at D-Day. One was a paratrooper, one was a pilot, the other stormed the beach. Isn't that awesome?!" So here’s to my now teenage son, who is showing me every day how to be a man. See more
NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY ... Across the country on January 9th each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. They’ve answered a call to public service that is demanding and often unappreciated. From local, state, and federal, their duties command dedication. The jobs are ...often thankless and take them away from their families for long hours. Rarely do they know what their days have in store for them. Often law enforcement are the only paid emergency resource a community has. More often they work in coordination with other local, state, and federal organizations to make communities safer. On National Law Enforcement Day, we have an opportunity to thank them for their service and offer a token of respect. Thanks in the form of mere words sometimes seem inadequate, but we Remember & Commemorate this Day. @NassauCountyPD @VFW @VFWHQ See more

[Re-post from The Secret List] All, For those younger readers of this - today, Pearl Harbor Day remembers the attack on Pearl Harbor, which was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States at our naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the morning of December 7, 1941.... 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 personnel were killed and 1,282 were wounded. We remember them all from The Greatest Generation who served ... along with all those who continue to serve today including the Honolulu FD and Hawaii’s Federal FD Firefighters. REMEMBERING THE FIREFIGHTERS KILLED & INJURED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AT PEARL HARBOR: As the Hickam Field firefighting apparatus was knocked out, Honolulu Fire companies responded to assist with the fires. At 0826 a Japanese aerial bomb was dropped on crews from HFD Engine Co.1, 4, and 6. 3 Firefighters, Captain John Carreira, Captain Thomas S. Macy, and Hoseman Harry T.L. Pang were killed in the Line of Duty. An additional 6 were wounded from shrapnel. They were Honolulu Fire Lieutenant Fred Kealoha, Hoseman Moses Kalilikane, Hoseman John A. Gilman, Hoseman Solomon H. Naauao, Hoseman Patrick J. McCabe, and Hoseman George Correa. In 1944 they all were awarded the Order of the Purple Heart. They are the ONLY civilian Firefighters to have ever received this award.
