Sunday March 14 is Daylight Savings Time 2021. Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead 1 hour before you go to bed Saturday night. This is also a great time to ...check those smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. If they have batteries, change them and test the detector. If they are 10 year lithium batteries, make sure they aren’t due to be replaced, and test the detector. Such small simple actions could be ones that save your life, and the ones you love! See more

While most of us are happy to see the first signs of Spring, it's easy to forget about the issues caused by warm weather and rain. 1) Check your basement! And i...f you are prone to flooding make sure your sump pump works or that it gets replaced. Make sure anything of value is up and off of the floor. 2) When call volumes get high we are limited by the amount of manpower we can provide and the amount of equipment we have. So understand that we prioritize calls based on the greatest need. 3) The pumps that we use to dewater a basement are designed for large volumes of water. So if you have 6-8 inches or less of water there is a good chance we will advise you to call a plumber or handyman to install a sump pump. The strainers we use in emergency services simply are not small or low profile enough to remove low levels of water. 4) As mentioned above we prioritize based on need. So a flooded basement with the water in danger of reaching utilities will have a higher priority than other flooded basements. 5) With the varied electrical uses and configurations in homes, and for the safety of our firefighters, be advised that before we begin to pump out your basement we will typically have Massena Electric respond to pull the meter and kill all power to your home. Thank you for your understanding. As always, the best way to reach us in an emergency is by dialing 911. For non-emergency use please call (315) 769-2380. As always, we stand ready to support and serve the community.

When there is a fire and you call 911, minutes count. Which fire hydrant would you rather we arrive to? Please take the time and safely clear out your hydrants. We need about 3 feet on each side to do what we need to do effectively. Massena Fire thanks you for your help!
