Watercolors collected by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, are on display at the Royal Collection Trust Queen’s Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. Marking the bicentenary of the births of both Victoria and Albert, the exhibition features 80 of their most treasured watercolors, capturing the elegance of the British court, foreign travel and diplomacy, and, importantly, the close-knit family at the heart of it all. Included are several by Scottish artists, some of which will be seen in Scotland for the first time. The exhibit is open through October 3rd. Jean-Jacques Lequeu, one of the most imaginative architects of the Enlightenment, died in poverty and obscurity. In early 2019, the BnF - Bibliothèque nationale de France (Bnf) and the Petit Palais, musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris organized an exhibition of Lequeu’s several hundred drawings which he had donated to the Bnf just before his death. To understand why this exhibit is so important to our appreciation of this little-known artist, read Kevin Salatino’s ex...hibition catalogue review in the current issue of MASTER DRAWINGS (volume 59, Issue 1). Learn why @kmsalatino, Chair of the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago, views Lequeu as a visionary, who saw something his contemporaries could not envision.
