Medical devices and gadgets are common technologies that #healthcare providers use to assist patients in different kinds of #clinical settings. However, this means that with more medical gadgets being connected online and the ability of doctors to remotely monitor patients’ data, it is increasingly important to consider the #cybersecurity implications of these #digital #medical devices. Jameson Rich, an arrhythmia patient, shared his experience of how overwhelmed he was kno...wing that his cardiac device, a defibrillator, can share all his health data to his doctor or be hacked by anyone on the internet. This kind of negative emotion and the technology itself have impacted many aspects of Rich’s life. In his own words, I should feel relieved that the device has not yet gone off, but instead, the longer it sits inside my body without having saved my life, the more I think about the device’s ability to end it. Rich is aware and was told by his doctor that amplifying negative information in a public way about medical devices unnecessarily adds to hysteria in a way that affects patient compliance. With the number of people who have these devices, it is not surprising that other patients could share similar thought on the medical devices which makes it crucial for the #medtech market to address these concerns when they design future devices. #MedTechMonday #medtech #biotech #medicaltechnology #innovation #innovative #devices #cardiac #publichealth

Nurses are #medical staff who not only have to work directly with patients and doctors but are also responsible for countless background support in a health care setting. The well-being of this work force is not often brought to the public’s attention; however, it is very crucial to pay attention to the support nurses need to perform their jobs well during this challenging time. Charlene Grace Platon, an entrepreneurial #nurse, has been devoted to developing #innovative opp...ortunities for her fellow nurses to carry on during the pandemic and beyond. After being accepted into the Johnson & Johnson Nurse Innovation Fellowship program, Platon and her team developed an app for nurses by nurses filled with meditation tools, self-care practices and a feature that lets users connect with other nurses. Platon said the while innovating is hard work, it can be so energizing. These innovations are crucial, and nurses should be proud of this game-changing work they’re doing. #MedTechMonday #health #nursewellbeing #health #publichealth #benchtobedside #MTM #femtech #biotech #publichealth #MTMthinkdifferently

Given that the Lean Start-up method is guidance that is often used by many entrepreneurs when they begin their own #startup journey, a group of scholars wanted to conduct research into how the application of scientific decision-making methods impacted new venture success. The researchers partnered with two startup schools to observe two different types of approaches; both of the groups were trained with the same content, but the treatment group was thought to think more lik...e scientists, ie. assessing business models with a more scientific approach. The results showed that this group had more pivots and dropouts but earned more revenue then those that didn't utilize this method. In summary they concluded that "scientific-minded founders in our study averted path dependence, whereby a wrong move early in the process has an enduring impact on decisions downstream." Both the Lean Start-up method and the scientific approach value continuous experimentation, discovery, and learning. But if the lean method is the what, the scientific approach is the how. Using genuinely rigorous investigation techniques is likely to produce better results. #MTMRead #innovation #innovative #research #startup #entrepreneurship #business #businessmodels #businessschools
