It's Manufacturing Month in the region! It kicked of on Friday with a ceremony hosted by Jamestown Community College. The month will feature a variety announcements and events and programming produced by Dream It Do It Western New York. It is a time to celebrate the creators, the innovators, the makers and the fixers of America! The Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier represents manufacturers across the three county region of Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua.... Manufacturers in that region generate $7.5 billion in manufacturing shipments per year and employ 18,000 workers. Manufacturing in the three-county region accounts for 15% of the total workforce, which is significantly higher than the national average of 8%. If we are to continue to retain and grow this important sector of the economy we must develop an abundant and skilled workforce. As we come together today, it is important to recognize that it will take a collective collaborative effort of the manufacturing sector, our school districts, post-secondary educators such as JCC, programming such as P-TECH, our elected leaders and economic development professionals working together to build the workforce we need now and well into the future.
