We are excited to announce that our new interim pastor, James Cubie, will be preaching at MPC this Sunday 5/2 at both the 9am & 11am services. Please come out to welcome James, Tara & Jack! James was born in 1977 and grew up in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill. His father was a staffer in the senate, working with various committees and senators. His mother was a professor of Occupational Therapy at Howard University. Both are now retired and live in South Carolina. James wen...t to the College of Wooster, in Ohio, where he met his wife, Tara. It was in college, that James came to saving faith in Jesus Christ through the example of a godly professor and mentor. Tara and James married in 2005, and have a daughter, Lina, who is 15 years old, and a son, Jack, who turns 4 in June. James received his Master of Divinity in 2004, from Union Theological Seminary (New York, NY), and a ThM from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2010. James worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA member in New York City, from 2004-05. VISTA is the anti-poverty wing of the AmeriCorps program, and with VISTA James saw, first-hand, how the church is often the front line of helping our neighbors in need. James was blessed to serve four churches in the Metro DC area for eleven years, doing youth, family, and Christian education ministries, finishing out in a four-year call as Associate Pastor for Christian Formation at Leesburg Presbyterian Church. James comes to Mattituck Presbyterian from a new church development in South Carolina, which he began working on in 2018. James brings a strong pastoral sensitivity to his work: He loves to listen to, learn from, and love well the people God calls him to serve, and consistent with his work of starting a new church he loves to make new friends in Christ and help them to take steps into the Kingdom of God. James and his family are very excited about joining us at Mattituck Presbyterian. In James’ words: As we learned more about Mattituck Presbyterian, and met many of you during our visit, we felt more and more at home. The personal and theological affinities are profound God must have been planning this for some time! How wonderful that we have found one another that God has brought us together! I am looking forward to settling in, and working to build trust, hope, and love, so that together we can serve God for many years to come. Let’s listen to the Spirit and lean into the work he is calling us to do.

It’s not that we have to quit this life one day, but it’s how many things we have to quit all at once: music, laughter, the physics of falling leaves, automobiles, holding hands, the scent of rain, the concept of subway trains... if only one could leave this life slowly! Roman Payne, Rooftop Soliloquy On this beautiful fall morning, I look out of the window where I have my home office and I see that my backyard is covered with leaves. Liz tells me that is most likely the ...Continue reading
