Wellness Wednesday So often we hear it’s so expensive to eat healthy! Well, yes and no... While some of the more exotic foods (think imports like dragonfruit) may be pricey, the majority of wholesome, healthy foods are the same price, or less, as processed unhealthy foods. PLUS natural foods are rich in vitamins and minerals, and plenty of fiber - which fills you up and keeps you full longer than processed foods do. This means that ultimately you’ll eat less food, which results in less food purchases and lower grocery bills!

Wellness Wedesday Calorie dense versus nutrient dense Whole, natural foods are rich in nutrients (vitamins, minerals, and a healthy make up of macronutrients), whereas processed foods (anything made in a factory or changed from its original form) are high in calories and generally lack most, if not all, nutritional value. This is important to remember especially if weight loss is a goal of yours. Look at the image below - for the exact same amount of calories, you can eat on...e meal, or an entire day’s worth of food! Losing weight doesn’t have to mean starvation - it’s about planning ahead and preparing healthy, wholesome meals to keep you full and fuel you right! Mindfull Monday Have you ever heard the term mindless eating? It’s what we do when we eat without paying attention, or because something was just there. This is a huge contributor to our calorie intake throughout the day - and most of us don’t realize we do it! If you’re trying to lose weight, mindless snacking between meals will slow down or halt your progress altogether. Only eat at meal time, eat slowly and drink water between bites of food, and abstain from those munchies in between. The best way to stop snacking - don’t allow snacks into your house!

Wellness Wednesday! Did you know that our bodies synthesize vitamin D from sunlight? It’s true! When sunlight hits our skin, our cells can make vitamin D that is then used in the body. BUT from late October to mid February, we are too high on the globe for sunlight to be strong enough to have us produce any vitamin D at all, which can lead to deficiencies. The good news is that in the coming weeks we will have strong enough sunlight again to get our cells back in action! If you’re someone who falls short of vitamin D regularly, it may be a good idea to eat foods high in vitamin D, especially during colder months.
