Make sure that you are getting the proper guidance to determine whether or not you are an ALE, Applicable Large Employer, Two provisions of the Affordable Care Act apply only to ALEs: the employer shared responsibility provision and the employer information reporting provision for offers of minimum essential coverage. In addition, self-insured ALEs that is, employers who sponsor self-insured group health plans have additional provider information ...reporting requirements. Even though in New York State a large employer is 100 plus this does NOT apply to these 2 provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Employers must determine their ALE status each calendar year based on the average size of your workforce during the prior year. Employers that had at least 50 full-time employees, including full-time equivalent employees, on average last year, are most likely an ALE for the current year. See more

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month

The NYS Department of Financial Services has released the approved individual and small group rates for 2017. The highest approved rate increase in the small group market was for North Shore- LIJ Ins Co. aka Care Connect at 23.2% while the lowest was 5% for MVP. This has proved to be a real issue for small business in NY as not only have many seen much higher premiums in the SG Market but they are also not able to get stop loss insurance which prohibits the ability to self insure.
