FORECAST UPDATE - Perhaps the most challenging storm of the year to forecast. Yet again, Long Island is on the battle line between warm and cold. Temperatures w...ill be marginally cold islandwide to support a snow event. So what does this mean for us? Some places could get 8", others close to nothing. And the distance between the two could be 20-30 miles. Unfortunately, the science is not at the point yet where an accurate forecast can be made, so ultimately take this with a grain of salt and understand that the outcome may be different than what I outline. NASSAU COUNTY - Will likely see somewhere in a 4-8" range. Lower amounts along the south shore, higher amounts north. SUFFOLK COUNTY - Will likely see <= 4", with close to nothing on the twin forks. ANY *minor* adjustment in track will lead to a significant difference in these numbers. THE TAKE AWAY - Impacts will likely be significant as HEAVY, wet snow falls and sticks to EVERYTHING. Down tree limbs and branches will knock power out for some again and the commutes, especially during the evening, will be very treacherous. Winds will gust over 50 mph for Suffolk Co, 40 mph for Nassau compounding the situation. And, while coastal flooding won't be a major issue, it will still impact areas along the south shore that have yet to catch a break from Friday's event.
