Marist College Women's Rugby 09.02.2021

Introducing Arianna Blanchard, one of our captains this season I am a biomedical science and Spanish double manor from Vermont. I joined rugby in the fall of my freshman year after going to the activities fair and being pulled in and grabbed by some of the then current players who were just so passionate and excited about it that I had to try it too. I love that rugby can bring all types of people together and that it’s a sport anybody can learn. I came in not knowing an...ything about it and it wasn’t an issue. I also love the atmosphere of rugby, anywhere you go if you meet another rugby player you’re instantly friends and there’s a special connection there. I’m excited to have rugby this year because it’s such a grounding force for me, it’s my happy place and that’s especially important to have during all of this. I’m hoping this gives my other teammates an outlet as well this year and other new players a place to go to forget their other troubles for a bit. See more

Introducing one of our Captains Deirdre Spencer Spencer I’m a fashion merchandising major with a minor in business from the Bronx, NY. I joined rugby fall semester freshman year because I was looking for a new sport to play during college. I have never been more passionate about something than I have been with MCWR and the sport of rugby. What I love about rugby is the inclusiveness, anybody can join, whether you know how to play or not. I have met so many amazing peop...le throughout my 4 years on this team. I specifically love our team because is MCWR is not just a rugby team. MCWR is a family full of smart, determined, enthusiastic girls who’s goal is to ultimately be the best version of themselves on and off the field. MCWR teaches their players sportsmanship, communication, and respect while valuing hard work and dedication to reach their goals. I am a better person because of this sport and I’m looking forward to finishing my senior year out with my teammates and will take all the amazing experiences I’ve had here with me forever. See more

Meet one of our captains- Toni Espo I am a senior majoring in biomedical science with a minor in psychology from Greenport, NY. I joined rugby in the fall of my freshman year after attending the activities fair. I remember getting lost while walking to the field on my first day of practice and was considering turning around and going back home but I spotted someone walking with a massive pad who was incredibly sweet and said she would take me there. I was greeted by so man...y welcoming faces and would soon enough consider this team as family. This team has been there for me both on and off the field in more ways than I could imagine and I am so grateful to be a part of something that is so much more than just a game. I know that with everything going on this year I can reach out to them and look forward to seeing them at practice. They give me something to look forward to every day! See more

Tomorrow MCWR will be hosting a pop up table on the Champ and Marian Green! This is a great opportunity for prospective players, or anyone who wants to get to know the team better. We can’t wait to meet you all!

Today Marist students marched against racial injustice. The unity our Red Foxes showed today is what makes our team so strong. As we embark on our second week of school, it is important not only to succeed in our studies, protecting each other against COVID, but to continue in supporting the Black Lives Matter Movement. Thank you to students and organizations that made today’s march against racial injustice possible!
