Malverne Educational and Fitness Foundation 04.06.2021

This article is on the spot. The MEFF understands the necessity of having teachers attend the high quality educational conferences. We will engage the SD in developing a set of rules in order to be able to contribute to teachers when the district sends them to such conferences. Help us develop the program, contact us via email at meff.org https://www.forbes.com//johnewing/2020/05/01/where-are-th/

The directors will meet as usual in public on Thu., at 5 pm 4/23, but for the first time virtually, using ZOOM app. You are welcome to join us. After you fill the "Contact us" form at meff.org, you get the access code on that same screen. Among other matters, we'll discuss the new HTH garden and creating again posters for Malverne 5K. Last year, we asked all local schools to have students create posters and got a tremendous response. The educators call such activity Place-based Learning, or Place-based Education, and it facilitates family-school-community partnership. Also, we got the first contribution toward the M5K (earliest ever) by Rossana Weitekamp as an expression of kindness for masks, the Malvernite, Kathleen Marie had sewn and distributed.

The MEFF directors at their December meeting: Approved the proposal submitted by Cristina DaCosta, the teacher at MWD, to contribute to class trips that help develop real life experiences, Set the date for Malverne 5K run to October 18th, 2020, and Discussed possibilities how to grow the MEFF from being the team that organizes the Malverne 5K to an organization that resembles a community resource center. In that matter we learned a lot at the NYS PTA Summer Leadership ...Conference and the NYS PTA annual convention in November. Also, Jan Kasal, the MEFF president, learned a lot as a member of the planning team in charge of the Statewide Parent Leadership Conference. Sponsored by the NYS Council on Children and Family, this inaugural conference took place in Rocherster on December 13th. We made a little inroads into our plan to become a community resource center already. Earlier in the summer we joined HTH students in developing (and redeveloping) their garden. We applied to host the TED Student Talk, an after school club for students in elementary schools that helps develop their speaking and writing skills. Our next initiative will be to develop in collaboration with the Malverne school board a program that will promote teachers participation in international and national educational conferences. Our goal is the teachers get a direct exposure to the globally adopted educational practices and share them with the community and implement them in the classrooms. We encourage the residents who are familiar with such programs in neighboring school districts to share with us at our next meeting on January 22nd at the Malverne high school. In general, we invite residents with any initiative on their mind to our public meetings any time. It takes a village to develop a program. We wish the community Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The directors at their meeting on Wed., Nov. 20, discussed the new location of the HTH garden, took few preliminary registrations for the TED Student Talk Club, and reflected on the Malverne 5K run last month 30% more finishers than last year, approximately $10K raised for youth programs. Students interested in voicing their opinion on what to do with the 2 spots are welcome to join us at our next meeting.
