#DidYouKnow that the area located from 24th to 42nd between Fifth and Seven Ave was called Tenderloin during the 19th and 20th century? The area encompassed the largest number of nightclubs, saloons, bordellos, gambling casinos, dance halls, and clip joints in New York City. The area was named by the NYPD Captain Alexander S. Clubber Williams in 1876, when he was transferred to a precinct in the district. Referring to the number of bribes he would receive for police protection he said: I’ve been having chuck steak ever since I’ve been on the force, and now I’m going to have a bit of tenderloin. #NYCneighborhoods #NYC #NYCHistory #InterestingCommunities : The New York Times - https://nyti.ms/3qSCDJF
Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico's victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla, in 1862, during the Franco-Mexican War. The day has become more popular in the United States than in Mexico, and serves as a commemoration of Mexican culture in America. #CincoDeMayo

#DidYouKnow that Rafael Guastavino, a Spanish architect, introduced one of the most iconic architectural features of New York? He moved to NYC in 1881 and introduced his own version of Catalan vault, which he called Guastavino tiles. They consist of self-supporting arches that use interlocked terra cotta and layers of mortar to form a thin skin, with the tiles following the curves of the roof. Gustavino tiles are present in several landmarks throughout the city, including the 79th Street Rotunda, which is undergoing a major rehabilitation beginning in 2021. #NYCHistory #Architecture #HistoricPreservation
