#FireFactFriday: Thomas Lote built the first fire engine made in America in 1743. These earliest engines are called hand tubs because they are manually hand powered! mendonfd.org

19 years ago, 2,977 victims lost their lives in the September 11 attacks. 343 of those were firefighters who selflessly died while fulfilling their duties at the World Trade Center. Today, we honor and remember all. #NeverForget #Honor911

It's lawn mowing season! If not properly taken care of, mowers can be a cause for fire. Make sure to remove debris and grass clippings from cutting units, mufflers and engines. Also never refuel a lawn mower if it's overheated! mendonfd.org #Summer #FireSafety

At approximately 14:04 hours this afternoon a citizen walking down Monroe street noticed smoke coming from the rear of the Chinese restaurant and immediately re...ported it to on duty personnel at our firehouse. Personnel from the Rush Volunteer Fire Department, Mendon Fire, Lima Volunteer Fire Department, East Avon Fire Department, Henrietta Fire District, Pittsford Fire Department, and Livonia Fire Department were called to the scene to assist in fire suppression. Firefighters found heavy fire in the first floor Restaurant, the second & third floor apartments, as well as fire self venting through the roof. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack to suppress the fire. The bulk of the fire was knocked down at 15:07 hours and the fire was under control at 15:21 hours. Extensive overhaul operations were conducted to insure that there were no hot spots left. Fortunately there were no injuries to any firefighters or civilians. Thank you to the Ionia Volunteer Fire Co. for providing a fill-in. The Monroe County Fire Bureau & Monroe County Sheriff's Office also assisted and are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Photo Credit goes to Rob Dahlen, who also assisted in setting up a water supply to our second in engine, Rush Fire Department Assistant Chief Sean Brown, and Pamela Scully. If I forgot to mention your name for photo credit we apologize.
